chat, do we think this is purely convenient chance or do we think it was orchestrated to be this way?

(lack of walkable cities or communal areas leading to no actual person to person information travel; making it trivially easy to control information and manufacture consent)
Americans just have no primary source of information to build their perspective on the state of the world, or even a reliable unbiased secondary source, it's all just word of mouth heresay or opaque (in terms of their backing interests) podcasts, news sites, and social media platforms

You don't diminish the education of nurses and other skilled health care workers by removing the "professional" designation to their degrees if you want the country to have good health care. We need more people in the field. You don't discourage them, you incentivize them.

i think tech and ai positive people are going to be in for a big shock when anti tech and anti ai sentiment becomes a major part of leftwing politics going forward especially as datacenters continue to destroy communities and raise electricity bills
Is this platform still massively against AI or has it moved more towards acceptance?

Capital flows to the energy sector are set to rise in 2025 to USD 3.3 trillion.

Around USD 2.2 trillion is going collectively to renewables, nuclear, grids, storage, low-emissions fuels, efficiency and electrification, twice as much as the USD 1.1 trillion going to oil, natural gas and coal.

NEW PAPER w/ @cselmendorf.bsky.social & @jkalla.bsky.social:

An under-appreciated reason why voters oppose dense new housing, especially in less-dense neighborhoods: they think it looks ugly and want to prevent that, even in other neighborhoods.

Some of what we think is NIMBYism might not be!

Zoning codes, design review boards and design guidelines make buildings ugly. All of these things are controlled by NIMBYs. They want density to be ugly so you oppose it

Invading Venezuela would be a huge mistake—an Iraq and Afghanistan level mistake that would reverberate for decades. Congress must act before the madman does. It’s Congress’ constitutional duty to declare war. Don’t let the senile tyrant take that power from the people’s representatives.

there’s this constant mythology about the elusive centrist voter who isn’t represented by the media but whenever they use examples of people not represented by the media it’s always people like alan dershowitz who are still represented in the media and almost exclusively so!
Bari Weiss says she wants to use her new perch at CBS News to “redraw the lines of what falls in the 40 yards of acceptable debate” in American political and cultural life. She says the aim is to sideline voices like Hasan Piker, Tucker Carlson and Nick Fuentes, and elevate “charismatic”...

Directly stopping ICE in the streets is the most crucial work happening in the US right now, imho. That kind of mass solidarity can pull together the broader anti-fascist movement to take down the regime, including by pushing liberals and institutions towards effective opposition.
Today there was an attempted ICE raid in Bensonhurst & community members showed up. Even though NYPD collaborated with ICE by trying to disburse the crowd; community members stood their ground & ICE left without kidnapping a single person per the rapid response groups I'm on. We protect us!

Great article, no criticisms, but I'd like to add that I feel one of the lessons of the Holocaust is that the Holocaust was not disconnected from other historical oppression.

No bailouts. The US should extort these companies when the crash happens so they get minimal compensation in return for nationalizing the entire panopticon industry and then destroying it once harvested for socially useful parts. It won’t happen but it should
when its definitely not a hostage situation
