An electoral college tie is extremely unlikely, sure, but Republicans are already running the risk of the exact same thing happening in Alaska and/or Iowa.

They weren't exactly preparing for any eventuality with this move.

Also something else that occurred to me; it's very possible that two Democrats win in 2026 and incumbency alone will carry them in 2028.

If that happens, Republicans would lose an entire vote for president in the case of an electoral tie.

This is the map that the Utah legislature passed today. It’s a gerrymander in that it’s 4-0 R in a state where it’s very easy to draw a Safe D district, but the 2nd and 3rd districts are competitive. The 2nd is Trump+6.6, the 3rd is Trump+2.2.

It’s more likely than not Democrats flip both seats.
