I found out a former colleague of mine had lost his job. Concerned, I reached out and found out he had entered into what he described as an "emotional relationship, but not a physical one" with one of his students. I literally cut off all contact and never spoke with him again. It's not hard!

I’m old and have a lot less at stake than many people. If I get arrested, I won’t lose my pension. If I get shot, I’ll lose 10-20 years of arthritis getting worse and worse. I have no reason not to rouse a little rabble.

This. You were paid a lot and a lot of power and responsibility were placed on your shoulders. You preened for years on how important your roles were. And then at the first adverse wind you folded like cheap lawn chairs while ordinary people took up the torch of the values you claimed to defend.
The anger people have at media institutions and college administrators can’t be detached from this, it’s not just that people can perceive cowardice it’s that they see others with more on the line doing more to stand up for their values than the people who have been trusted to safeguard things

I can’t have smoked meat any more.(sad😭) but turns out a pork chop and a couple heaping spoonfuls of schmaltz and pan drippings from a roast chicken will do just fine in giving them that meaty unctious silky perfect mouthfeel to go along with their natural sweetness
