Taking the "is this a trick?" aside, I think a bunch of responses are mistaking "I don't think random stranger expressing desire moves much in me" with "I don't think casual sex happens"
Discussion elsewhere on the internet dot com about male willingness to sleep with attractive strangers and, just, like, speaking as a man - even if I were single, the level of persuading I'd need that a random attractive woman claiming to want to sleep with me wasn't up to something nefarious?...

I know what I mean now
I'm not 100% on exactly what I mean here, but "division of labor is a scam" underlies some of the weirdness going on with people

There's a subtler flavor of "no, I'll live forever" that goes on that I'll be interested to see how it plays out in a decade

The "At least three, don't play games with me kid" is a pretty decent example of this rhetorically
Voters love when someone identifies as a sensible moderate and it drives me nuts when people on here get spitting mad that a national Democrat is moving away from that label. The key is to embrace progressive policies with the branding of sensible moderation. Politics all sales and sleight of hand.
Emerson poll on presidential matchup 2x2.

Progressive Democrat 43%
MAGA Republican 42%

Moderate Republican 48%
Progressive Democrat 36%

Moderate Democrat 47%
MAGA Republican 38%

Moderate Republican 44%
Moderate Democrat 39%

Started Wake Up Dead Man, and at least for 30 minutes in, it's interesting how much of this is Protestant stuff in a Catholic setting

I think that brand recognition is a lot of this (ChatGPT is what most people are going to reach for). But, what's distinct about this vs other validating spaces and violence (forums) is how little utility ChatGPT has for these users outside of validation?
at some point maybe will have to reevaluate but so far every single story like this is with ChatGPT specifically
“Soelberg did not turn violent until ChatGPT became his sole confidant, validating a wide range of wild conspiracies, including a dangerous delusion that his mother was part of a network of conspirators spying on him, tracking him, and making attempts on his life.”

"Look what can happen if there isn't a mother in the home" covers a lot of this
If no one has already someone is going to write a think piece blaming this on true crime and no, that stuff came after the range of children had already dramatically shrunk. It probably is caused by it.
There are many, many ways, economically and socially, that we've moved away from children's independence and it's not just parents being overly precious.

Hitting the missionaries with "Sorry, I'm already planning to got to Mass on Christmas" and seeing the "welp, he's damned" is always so odd

On the dumb Gaston movie, one of the reasons why his character works so well is that he's not played as Bell's foil. Bell doesn't need to overcome him or prove any thing about their character differences, Gaston is just a small town misogynist

I will say, the half/full day/multi-day interviews for entry level positions were always just a dumb and lead to a lot of sunk-cost fallacy in-industry
I think the paradox was "there are a good number of open positions and horizontal movement is easy" and "the interview process is both more difficult and exploitable by personal network than other fields"

Tolkien/LotR question: is it ever confirm that Denethor is (for a brief period) a peer to the Maiar? I feel like it's implied that he genuinely contends with the Dark Power like his sons.

If you or someone you know is feeling a lot of anxiety re: upcoming kid, I'd really recommend prenatal classes, specifically one's that are just focused on "how to take care of baby" not "how to meet goals, do the best, etc"
Yeah newborns are surprisingly resilient and extremely straightforward needs-wise.

And listening to neurotic parents talk about how miserable they are on Reddit and generalizing that experience is the equivalent of believing the political doomers on Bluesky.

Not Even Once.
Every parenting YouTuber wants to tell you how easy it is for your newborn to die and every parenting reddit user wants to tell you how their lives are a living hell since having a child.

You know what, I think we're done with Internet advice on kids. We'll figure shit out our way.

people gotta talk about their shingles experiences. no one is going to enjoy this
All over my FB people talking about their bad experiences with shingles vax and dissuading each other from getting it! We need to give people real info on how to mitigate the symtoms caused by vaccines because vaccines are always better than meeting a virus unprepared. Yet drs aren't coaching ppl

Commented something similar, but some of this is a result of people ossifying "meritocracy" in a way they now can't easily change.
some significant part of this is just catch-all fear for “this is not the child I ordered” I think
Oh, here's a big surprise. The transphobes don't believe in ADHD either.

I feel like AI does have a lot of good use cases for devs, but it's hard not to think that there's a certain kind of "and we've solved a perennial problem for reasons justified by the solution" going on.
