(Also last night I could TELL my dad was an inch from suggesting we put the heater on because the house is still cold, & I was like “do NOT even think it, the way this house is arctic when it’s 30 degrees outside is the only thing keeping me upright & sane right now, PUT A JUMPER ON IF YOU MUST”)

The headache from yesterday has not only persisted but gone to the usual full blown “entire left side of my face is alternately numb & being crushed in by something heavy” place, so yeah can’t wait for actual summer

Drake sitting there reading about how good the judge thought the song was and how everyone really enjoyed it
The song contains lyrics explicitly accusing Drake of being a pedophile, set to a catchy beat and propulsive
bassline. "Not Like Us" went on to become a cultural sensation.

Look this was 2008, so possibly it’s OTC by now, but that is literally what they gave me at the hospital: a script for liquid ibuprofen (I couldn’t take tablets at that point, gag reflex too bad) & a sling, & they were like “good luck I guess, we’ll send you a bill for $700 in 6 months”

When I lived in the US I fortunately was only on Ventolin, bc I was 21 & reasonably able bodied, but I DID break my elbow a week after moving there & that’s when I found out I needed a script for ibuprofen, the strongest painkiller they’d give me, & they charged me about $700 to be told that, so…

This is so wild to me, like I’m on 10+ meds, at least 2 of which are controlled substances, & I ring my pharmacy about once a year at MOST, what is going on over there (I know, your healthcare system is going on, I’ve had the pleasure unfortunately)

so much of the american experience is being on hold with pharmacies for so long you decide it might just be easier to die

Guys I can tell you it’s now officially The Hot Times; had my first heat induced POTS headache after shopping this afternoon, which always bodes well for the next 6 months when it happens in October

Yeah I think basically everyone uses Turnitin now, although tbh how well it works is questionable, like my law essays used to get a 40%-50% hit rate sometimes & it was just that it apparently didn’t understand citations, & also that there are some cases & quotes that everyone uses as precedent

TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

We should never be surprised by the cruelty of humans - anyone who has read about Rhythm O, the 1970s performance art piece created by Marina Abramović could tell you that. She still bares the scars of people's glee at permitted punishment

The Boaty McBoatface side of human nature is always there, the instinct to troll, to mock, to turn sincerity into a joke. Now it’s just got better tools, & sometimes that means people making tasteless things like Sora2 videos of Stephen Hawking being horribly brutalized. futurism.com/artificial-i...
People Are Making Sora 2 Videos of Stephen Hawking Being Horribly Brutalized
People are using OpenAI's Sora 2 to generate videos of theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking being brutalized in ghoulish ways.

Also a guy from Curtin rang me because I had to give them my phone number to download the course guide (why), & he was like “so why are you interested in this course” & I was like “…I haven’t had a job in nearly 2 years, and I require one because of capitalism”, which…great, good first impression

(By “wokeism” I should say the two subjects I’m looking at are called Intro to Human Rights & Social Justice & Dialogue across Cultures and Religions, both of which sound FASCINATING but do use the words “praxis” & “postcolonial” in the descriptions so…you know, it’s almost on the nose for me)

WHOOPS did end up looking at a Grad Dip in archives/records thru Open Universities & have already chosen electives bc they can be divided into “wokeism for cultural institutions” & “project management” & if I wanted to study project management my dad is right there & doesn’t charge for his lectures

(The only free option I was genuinely considering was cybersecurity, but the idea of being back in a class with one other woman & 20 men does not thrill me after becoming That Guy in both my Tech Production certificates, I’ve had enough eye rolling over sexism to last me a lifetime tbh)
okayjokesover.bsky.social
(Mostly I was looking at library technician/archives/records management, which are things I’ve already done the tasks of professionally but don’t have a qualification in, so it’s proving hard to get a job that actually has that title, & guess what the govt isn’t interested in…business and libraries)
okayjokesover.bsky.social
So unfortunately even though I swore I’d finished studying after doing an extremely intellectually laborious masters I am currently looking at TAFE courses again, because I guess I yet again have to retrain, but of COURSE none of the ones that I could actually do or that would be useful are free
