The biggest issue is that people seem to want to turf everyone else’s older member of Congress, but not their own older member of Congress.
I’ll be interested to see what happens with the seasonal migration of Canadian retirees to states like Florida and Arizona in the next month or two. My parents aren’t interested and a lot of their friends are taking a pass.
I think Mills is actually a solid candidate and is at least predictable which is something American democracy desperately needs (even if it’s a bit boring). If someone else emerges, that’s great as well, especially as who knows what else we’ll discover about Platner. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Narrator: in fact, von Mackensen was not a barrel of laughs.

ngl, i feel like we could do worse than someone who's already been heat-tested for good principles but happens to be old
oh nooo, now we'll have to settle for... *checks notes*

the progressive governor who told Trump "fucking try me" to his face over trans kids during the peak of "woke lost election 😔" panic

Putting a Democrat with a Nazi tattoo in the Senate normalizes Naziism in our federal politics for a long ass time.

All these recent stories about secret Nazi group chats? Anytime that happens going forward will be met with "But Platner."

It's not a purity test. Think through the consequences.
I have an inherent distrust of populists. They’re generally bad news. Even Bernie Sanders is problematic as he’s a really bad judge of character based on campaign staff he’s empowered in the past (not to mention he seems to still be backing Platner! 🙄).

The White House is asking people not to share pictures of the East Wing because it’s even worse today.
I'm not sure about Congress, but no doubt SCOTUS would back up Trump's right to do so, probably from the shadow docket so that they wouldn't have to justify the decision.

I wanna fucking know how many people circling the wagons for Platner right now adamantly refused to vote for Harris last year because a tactical alliance with Liz Cheney was morally beyond the pale. I’ll bet that Venn diagram’s bigger than zero.
It's only going to be a matter of time before one these yahoos publicly murders a protester. And I fear the violence that's going to unleash.
If the dude knew it was called a totenkopf, then he knew exactly what it's currently associated with...
Yet again, Bernie Sanders shows that he really has difficulty assessing people's character.

I'd want to ask these politicians how many Nazi tattoos they would consider to be disqualifying?
I didn't have "Nazi helicopter parents" on my bingo card, but at this point anything is possible in 2025.🤦‍♂️
Is Platner a Nazi? I don't know, but as far as I'm concerned one Nazi tattoo (that he knows is called a totenkopf) is completely disqualifying. People trying to rationalize this away do not deserve to be treated in a serious fashion.
Any chance that the US could rent an historic space in front of the Banqueting House from the UK for a special Trump sending off ceremony?🤔
At this point, I'm starting to think these people would've gone to the mat for Harris if she had a Nazi tattoo.😐

Looks like the far left are still willing to deals with the far right like Hitler and Stalin's deal in 1939...
It’s nice to be nice! 👍
“He’s a huge fan of WWI German Field Marshal August von Mackensen!” - no doubt someone rationalizing today 🙄😂
If the guy is genuinely that dense, I don’t think you’d want him as a senator. Either he’s a Nazi or really stubbornly stupid.
