In the spirit of this #HorrorWritersChat, I'm going to share What Saints Fear, because Unholy of Holies is a horror/fantasy story about an industrial-scale relic factory farm (CW for torture).
What Saints Fear

3 tales of dark monastic fantasy in which the faith of the Keepers of Khriam is tested by:

- occultist clerics addicted to demons
- saints claiming need of rescue
- factory-farmed relics

It is hopeless. My skin is fused to the cold, metal slab. Instruments of silver and red glare at me. The end is truly here.

As soon as the machine activates, there is no physical pain, but my mind becomes corrupt. Memory becomes 1s and 0s. Data. I don't feel anymore.

I serve.

Once you lose your autonomy, you can kiss your humanity goodbye... if your new overlord will let you.

Emotion? Sensory feeling? Free Will? None of that for you. You're a cog in the growing machine. A battery to be used until you're drained. You belong to the hive. You always did
[Moon entity. Observed. Depth distance. Calculated. Organic material: satisfactory.]

[Ablative carapace. Installed. Cortex. Pried.]

[Inquiry. Required for completion: WHEN IS DEHUMANISATION COMPLETE? LOSS OF BODY? OF WILL? AN ALIEN CONSCIOUSNESS IN ONE’S MIND?]

As boring as it may sound, I'd prob go the old route of technology usurping humanity in everyday roles. However, some companies may feel it lacks that human touch... so then it's a case of making the best of both worlds, probably by removing the core of a person: their brain.
[Grafting. In progress. Conveyor attachments. Plugged. Mining extraction. Tools. Inserted.]
[Spinal chord. Interwoven. Cranial examination. Reactivated.]

Hey #HorrorWritersChat! Oli Jacobs here, writer of cosmic horror and other assorted terrors...

I find most industrial horror - especially when it combines with body horror - is freaky. But, there is an extra level of discomfort in more historically industrial combos of flesh and steel...
[Organic Material. Booted. Nerve System. Controller Liquids. Injected.]

[Material responsive. Cranial activity. Under control.]

[Inquiry. Required for completion: TELL US, WHO YOU ARE, WHAT DO YOU WRITE, AND WHAT INDUSTRIAL HORROR IS SCARIER? OF THE PAST, OR OF THE FUTURE?]

Please…
Remember your favorite creator possibly might be struggling with imposter syndrome and doubt and this timeline sucks.. so if you find yourself thinking “wow I really relate to this persons work” or that persons work gives you joy, you should probably tell them. It’s a hard time to be a creative.

Municipal Gothic (2022) continues to outsell Intervals of Darkness (2024) by quite some way. That's fine. That's grand. But if you liked MG, don't sleep on IoD. “It's every bit the equal of Municipal Gothic, and if anything it's darker and stranger,” said John Grindrod, who knows wots wot.
Between them ‘Municipal Gothic’ and ‘Intervals of Darkness’ have 27 stories full of haunted buildings, haunted people, and working class weirdness. Obviously *I* think they're great – but so do strangers who owe me nothing!

I could just post them, but then I’ll think about how I didn’t utilise the post to promote the available books. And I don’t want to link to the books when they’re not ready. And…

What happened to just telling people about your awesome stories?

I am sick of this.

What do you propose? All the major card companies have been quietly controlling who can even bank for decades. Stripe is doing the same stuff as paypal. Paypal owns venmo.

It's very easy to say "don't do thing" except that nothing else is any better.
Also, just don't use PayPal. Crappy company, crapy service as well as the ethical nastiness.
