5 years ago, I would propose that a person should find a place where the quality of their flame is needed. Today, I propose finding a place where it's appreciated instead.

You can say that the first lighter is better than the second, and you would be correct in this context. The need defines the value of their qualities. Imagine, though, that we said the same about people (we do). Society's need for you defines your quality. What a horribly untrue thing to say.

A reasonable answer is the first lighter. If you smoke every day, you need a reliable lighter to smoke with. The second lighter would be pretty on occasion, but generally frustrating.

I, as a person, am the second lighter, and society has a smoking problem.

You can choose between two lighters and cannot switch. One works consistently, providing the same size and heat of the flame each time. The other works inconsistently, sometimes not at all, but occasionally the flame that it provides is beautiful. You smoke every day. Which do you choose?

People on here caught it of course, and the person is being dunked on to high hell. I just see stuff like this elsewhere with less educated audiences, and the defense of posts written with this (not very) sly framing works on a lot of folk. Don't let them get away with it!

This is what was removed by the author. I don't usually do dunk posts. The reason I'm doing so now is to highlight how the poor reading comprehension of the general public is used against it to position ideas in a way that seems reasonable and less violent.

I hate to say it but the majority of the country is not going to die on the hill of trans rights. We can’t protect ANY groups if we can’t win a national election, so purity tests only serve to make specific groups feel triumphant. That’s not “erasing” them; it’s long-horizon strategy.
