Weirdly enough, I think this works. No one is more insecure than a new ICE agent. They want to be the blonde guy in DHS’s AI Nazi posting so badly. Instead, they’ll be guarding indistinguishable suburban warehouse #16361 while inflated frogs and dinosaurs thrust in their face all day every day.

Tumblr poster: Why is the Fantasy Protagonist's Cool Animal Companion always a wolf, a bird of prey, or something cool? If you live in a medieval-ish society, even if you have cool powers to bond with an animal, it's probably going to be a farm animal.

What about a fantasy book where the heroine's Spirit Companion Animal is a pig. And not a cute piglet, but a huge fucking sow. As clever as a human, but absolutely as ruthless as pigs can be.

And the protagonist is like "should I quit eating pork? Does it disturb you, that milk piglet could have been yours." And the pig is like "bitch first of all the difference is that it *isn't* mine, and don't fucking pretend that - given the chance - I wouldn't eat a human child."

According to the Authors Guild, the settlement stipulates Anthropic must certify that the books included in the class are not used in commercial LLMs but…I’m extremely skeptical about that claim. We’ve been repeatedly told there’s no untangling the training data from the model.

About the settlement:
The District Court had certified a class consisting generally of rightsholders (generally, authors and publishers) of books with registered copyrights that Anthropic obtained from Library Genesis and Pirate Library Mirror. The settlement settles all claims for the books at issue. In addition to the monetary relief, the settlement requires Anthropic to destroy the at-issue books and certify the books were not used in the training of commercial LLMs. Author groups, including the Authors Guild, Romance Writers of America, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association, Sisters in Crime, Novelists Inc., and the Textbook & Academic Authors Association, advised on key issues related to the settlement.
The claims process opened October 2.

Although lets be real - I'll look for synopsis and folks gushing about a book I enjoyed because the author hasn't finished the next book yet :( (Don't worry, they get around to it eventually).

And only once have I ever finished a book and turned right back to chapter 1.
