All of this. 💥 I have planned surgery in 2½ weeks. If the nurses are on strike, I won't cross their picket line. I'm a cancer patient (heavy user of provincial public health care). I know how hard those folks work & the deplorable conditions under which they save lives. Plus late mother was a nurse.

My oncologist told me he works at least 12 hour days five days a week, but that it’s just part of the job. I know they get paid well, but in addition to this he’s sometimes on call on the weekends too. It’s a lot of work. He seems like Superman or something, but that would burn a lot of people out.

Political agendas override evidence, this is the UCP over and over. Ideology over science and facts. In health care, and addictions care, make no mistake, this is costing some Albertans their lives.

I can't help but think Danielle and the UCP know the cost, but they're willing to sacrifice us.

Unfortunately it's already in motion.

If they're elected again in 2027 (or whenever she wants to go to the polls) Canadian HC in AB is toast.

We will need to make it clear to those who live in rural areas that their healthcare is going to be the most impacted by this change.

They're not "making a mistake", they're very well aware of this outcome. This is what they WANT. The purpose of a system is what it does.
It’s why you wait 14 hours in the ED, why rural EDs close, why ambulances are on Red Alert and unavailable, and why specialists burn out.
The OAG report is a warning to all.
The govt is repeating the same mistake, only now on a much bigger scale.

Happened to speak to a peds nurse this wknd who said lots of 5-10 year experienced nurses are leaving the profession. If the current state is driving them out with burnout, how can 'dual pay'—which competes for the same scarce staff—possibly help? It will only speed up the public system's decline.

The OAG’s report on the failed DynaLIFE lab contract should alarm every Albertan.

It exposes political interference, broken governance, and decisions that directly worsen access to care for all ABs.

An Examination of Community Laboratory Services (Contract with DynaLIFE) - Office of the Auditor General, Alberta
Examination Overview  In late 2019, Alberta Health Services (AHS) began the process to outsource community laboratory services for the provincial healthcare system. This led to a $4.8 billion contract signed with DynaLIFE Dx (DynaLIFE) in May 2022, with service delivery scheduled to begin in December 2022. Eight months later, in August 2023, AHS terminated the agreement at the request of DynaLIFE’s owners.  Given the significance … Continued

This is a great point

Universal healthcare is the real, tangible service Canadians, and Albertans get in return for paying our taxes

I can guarantee Albertans will pay the same in taxes but we will get less

& this will negatively impact our health & livelihoods
#ableg #abpoli
Hey Alberta... if you want access to peditricians for your kids get ready to pay.
Govt will keep the substantial taxes you are paying, plus you will have to pay out of pocket THOUSANDS simply for access..

Amery openly conceded that these laws also violate the Alberta Human Rights Act and the Alberta Bill of Rights.

That the UCP just rewrote.

Looks like the future could be bright.
Our medical students already fully know that the proposed changes are neither fair nor equitable.
The Calgary Medical Students Association and the U of A Medical Students Association have written an open letter to the Smith government “imploring” them to reconsider 2 tiered healthcare in Alberta.

And records were withheld despite Smith’s promises?
