grim posthumous scenario i had not previously considered: you post a picture of the missile headed straight for you, and are memorialized by a bunch of random assholes complaining about alt text

I have been definitely guilty of using this language when talking about AI but this thread from Sandy is a great example of how nuanced criticism of AI has to be part of whatever pushback exists.
As ever: I just wish people who said phrases like "literally psychosis machines" knew ANYTHING about what they're talking about.

As someone who's both a survivor of psychosis and who's written one-going-on-two books on this topic ... I find this sort of language offensive and misguided.
For all that the media has spent years freaking out about what social media does to our brains, I don’t understand why there appears to be little effort to grapple with the fact that these chatbots are, for some not insignificant portion of the population, literally psychosis machines

Americans missed the point of 2025's biggest movies — and it's not a new problem
From Superman to Zootopia 2 to Jurassic World Rebirth, anti-billionaire messaging stretched across genre movies. Here's what's changed.

Wait, fuck, they just needed help this whole time?
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

Dipshit is smashing out a car window with his gun, barrel first. Just rogue, cowboy stiff.

There were two US citizens in the car. They were apprehended and detained for “obstructing” ICE by honking their horn to let people know ICE was in the neighborhood.

It fucking sucks to be German and Irish and American like wth
While reporting this, we came across this ProPublica story from 2019 about a Border Patrol Facebook group.

Hardly any differences between this and other cop pages we've reported on. It's all the same dehumanization and racism, just different targets (w/ Chicago cops—usually it's Black people).

Yeah, a real job, like posting mean things on a platform configured for gooning to fascism, owned by a South African billionaire.
This is real. Our govt is Tweeting like a 14 year old and calling Americans imbecilic morons. We worry about children being bullied but this is the example set by the U.S. GOVERNMENT. This is so shameful. I’m embarrassed for any of you that think this is okay or make excuses for it.

Aliens: They’re Just Like Us
The Fermi paradox asks why we've yet to find evidence of intelligent extraterrestrial life. The odds are we should!

A NASA scientist suggests that "alien societies might plateau at modest technological levels and even grow bored with exploration."
