No shade to any of the Vertigo relaunch writers, but this is what the lineup looks like with me no longer in it, lol.

I gotta say, it's a bit rich relaunching Vertigo, "Comics! They're not just for kids!", after being lily livered cowards who hurled a trans writer under the bus for making a Kirk joke.

what's the word @jay.bsky.team?
junoryleejournalism.com
i think it is fair to request a statement from @jay.bsky.team on TRANS PEOPLE and where we fit in on @bsky.app.

i think as a transgender journalist, it's acceptable and makes sense for me to ask this

and so, the question, am i not a person as a trans girl and do i not deserve to feel safe here?

- We need cheaper printed black and white comics for the love of god
- Comics for adults could do crazy numbers if they actually had support, pubs are leaving money on the table
- Prose authors shouldn't be hired to write comics based on prose chops alone
- Cartoonists should be paid 700x more

Today is the birthday of Harvey Kurtzman (Oct. 3, 1924-Feb. 21, 1993). He wrote, edited, & drew stories for Two-Fisted Tales & Frontline Combat for EC. The creator of the comic that became Mad magazine, he was editor from 1952-1956, & wrote Little Annie Fanny for Playboy from 1962-1988.

75 years ago today, The first Peanuts comic strip was published. Peppermint Patty was such a brilliant character, and this is my favourite strip featuring her, from 28th December 1984.
Peppermint Patty, a young girl, sits at a table writing on paper, as indeed she is in each picture here. Above her, in joined up writing, we are shown what she is writing:
"What I did on my Christmas vacation. I went outside and looked at the clouds. They formed beautiful patterns with beautiful colors. I looked at them every morning and every evening. Which is all I did on my Christmas vacation. And what's wrong with that?"

I just called Chuck Schumer’s office and, for the first time EVER, a person answered, who then politely entered my complaints into their call log.

This tells me two things:

1) They’re not getting enough calls over there, and 2) If you want to yell at Schumer, today’s the day.

The reason we're releasing this in theatres is because it's incredibly fun to watch in a room full of people. People lose their minds at it. We want people to watch it together.

So! Do you run or know somebody who runs an indie theatre?

If so, contact us, and we'll let you screen it for free.

George Herriman is arguably one of the first major black artists in comics.

And the only reason for that is because NO ONE KNEW HE WAS BLACK.

He was light skinned enough to be white passing & hid that fact into old age so that he WOULD be able to continue drawing largely due to rampant racism.

A poignant, timely, and critical read no matter who you are, but particularly if you are part of the trans community.

It is a tragic reality that much of the power of the state has been levied against you in these dark times. But the state, like everything else, is temporary. You will outlast it. 🫶

In the face of mounting threats of genocide against the trans community, how can trans people still find hope?

In our latest, Mady Castigan (@madycast.com) reminds us that despite the doom and fear spreading across social media, we will survive this genocide as we have survived them before.
On Surviving Trans Genocide
As fascists openly call for trans people to be institutionalized, forcibly detransitioned, and labeled as terrorists, we must remember how trans existence is undefeatable, and how trans people will fi...
