Today is Thanksgiving in the US, or National Day of Mourning/"Unthanksgiving Day" for some Native Americans. Wampanoag people shared food with pilgrims in 1621 but were repaid with centuries of genocide. More on Indigenous resistance: shop.workingclasshistory.com/collections/...

Good afternoon.
Here’s an intersectional tree of knowledge for Trans Remembrance Day, honouring those we have lost to hatred and violence. My tree also symbolises room for growth and much needed change in the world.

The reason the Right are so invested in the myth that the arts have no value isn’t because the arts don’t generate wealth (they do); it’s that studying the arts teaches people to imagine better ways of judging the value of an idea than by counting how much money it makes…

It's #WorldOctopusDay! Pictured here a “Polypus levis Hoyle” from a 1910 publication on the German Deep-Sea Expedition of 1898, led by Leipzig University Professor of Zoology, Carl Chun. Buy it as a print here: https://publicdomainreview.org/product/octopus/

I grew up in Lozells, just a stone’s throw from Handsworth.

Robert Jenrick called it “as close as I’ve come to a slum” and complained he “didn’t see another white face.”

This is white-supremacist thinking dressed up as “legitimate concerns”.

I stuck my riso print to cardboard to make a placard for a demo yesterday, protesting all the sewage dumped into our rivers and seas. I didn’t know the demo was cancelled due to the weather. The walk in high winds was bracing and enjoyable anyway!

Farage’s plans to abolish Indefinite Leave to Remain would ruin lives and tear families apart.

Rather than dismissing Reform’s xenophobic proposals as 'unrealistic' or 'unaffordable', our government should be clear that they are cruel and unjust. We must stand up for migrants' rights.

Today I offer a reminder of the word ‘forswunk’ (13th century): exhausted from too much work. To be ‘foreswunk’ (my own version) is to be exhausted before you even begin.

I am on tour right now with a book about two gay working class artists who died long before I was born. I’ve visited bookshops and libraries and galleries. And at every event I’ve been welcomed and there has been warmth and community. Books build empathy. The arts connect us. They just do.
