I love languages and am bad at capitalism. Focusing on Japanese and French right now but want to learn Korean and Mandarin next. I'd also like to learn some ancient Greek. 🤓 You can also find me in the fediverse @[email protected] 🖖

Cowards. If they really wanted to unite the nation they would be brioche scented (the let them eat cake line, which Marie Antoinette did not in fact say, was brioche and not cake).

Friends and comrades made a crowdfunding page for my family.

It’s really hard to post this. I know that there are a lot of other important issues asking for money but things have gotten to the point where we need to open ourselves up to your support.

Thank you for your consideration.

As a cephalopod enthusiast this is disappointing but understandable.

Spent five years in Paris, left 15 or so years ago. The photographs Brent posts of Paris are astonishing and hopeful.

Gritty, grey side streets for cars are now green and lively with people. Bicycle lanes on rue de Rivoli?? The only time I saw bicycles on it was the finish of the Tour de France.

“In a city once choked with cars and infamous for its traffic snarls, Paris has pulled off a remarkable turnaround…the French capital has officially become Europe’s best city for children to walk, cycle, and move around independently.” Via @momentummag.bsky.social

A victory for FAST leadership.

I currently know so many people obtaining foreign passports or citizenship and I am incredibly envious.

Some days I feel so totally trapped. I got an English degree so no foreign country will ever have me for the same reasons I’ll never make enough money to buy a house here. At least I can walk to 2 mediocre grocery stores I suppose.

US to Germany in 2017. Never going back. Our work-life balance is incredible. We travel, have time for our Kid, public healthcare, free daycare, free college for our son, there's reliable public transportation and we can bike everywhere in the city. COL is lower, QOL is higher.

There is VERY little violent crime, and we live 2km from a lake, at the midpoint between several large public parks, and within walking distance of about 12 grocery stores, hundreds of restaurants, and a major hospital with cardiac and children's specialty departments.

We're 20 minutes from the central train station by bus, and about 25 minutes from the heart of the city by subway. My kid's school is in a brand new building they have tons of field trips and after school activities (that are also free)- two tram stops or 15 minutes bike ride from our home. He's native bilingual in German and English (I'm conversationally fluent in German, native English), and will start a third language in a couple years.
Today we rode bikes to the grocery store, then got cash and pedalled over to a Sushi place for lunch, before riding bikes along the canal and stopping to relax in the sun and play on a swing set next to the canal. It's not easy but it's been infinitely worth it for us.”

Today, the Supreme Court is considering a case that could overturn Colorado's ban on conversion therapy.

I was proud to join an amicus brief against this case and cosponsor @reptedlieu.bsky.social’s bill that would ban this cruel practice nationwide.

The fact is most politically motivated violence comes from the right. If you actually care about this issue your priorities should involve strategies like gun control laws and a well funded FBI allowed to do its job. But Schmitt clearly doesn’t mind political violence if it’s directed at the left.
raenpayne.bsky.social
It’s neat how Schmitt is using the language of the left against the left, re this isn’t a both sides issue. He also claims political violence is a product of the left while simultaneously saying we need to have a cleansing, implying we need to cleanse the country of the left.

Schmitt: "Let's just call it out. We need a cleansing here. Let's just be truthful about what's happening. This left-wing political violence is not a both sides thing. It's not."

Republicans are afraid rainbow bricks will turn them and anyone who passes over them gay. What a bunch of dumb snowflakes.

As an actual conservative, I believe that it should be entirely up to local communities how they want to paint their crosswalks.
