Honestly, Grok sponsoring a Tron movie is the most anti-Tron thing and just shows how much Ares is straight up corporate tech bro propaganda. It’s very sad. Tron has such potential and never fully gets there. Legacy and Uprising are good but Tron: Identity tbh is the franchise peak.

The game grid is a Call of Duty-like online game instead of an 80s arcade game

But that would mean both making it different from the original IP that everyone has nostalgia for, and a narrative that challenges the powers that be in the real world, which studios don't seem to have the courage to do.

Actually, I would love to see a Tron sequel where we see what it's like to be a program in a modern computer - where everything's a cloud service and nobody knows what's really happening, and at any moment an "update" might arrive that completely rewrites you.

The central conflict of the original Tron is extremely relevant today - the guy who thinks AI should run everything, vs the free software that thinks a user should be in control of their own computer.

It's tempting to speed up, afraid of losing the audience's patience.

But if you slow down instead, then the important themes and ideas that the scene is dealing with will start to emerge. You won't be able to skip over them any more. You'll be forced to give them time and attention.
