I decided to prioritize graduate school beginning last fall, and as a result have submitted very little fiction and poetry this year. Still, I did have a story published in Dream Forge:
The Last Mardi Gras - Dreamforge Magazine
It isn’t the noise of the water lapping between the walls on the first floor, nor is it the sound of the building settling a little […]

This is why community organizing is an important piece in protesting:

If every person who showed up to the No Kings protest last month was given a tangible task to contact their rep to vote against this, we’d have a real shot at scaring reps in places like TX.
really does feel like if we can cyberbully the House into passing changes on the shit they openly hate and get it kicked back upstairs again there’s a chance it might not survive the Senate a second time

if you live in a GOP state it’s time to ruin a House rep’s life
The package now goes to the House who is expected to vote on it this week. Any changes to the bill in the House will force the Senate to take up the bill again.

The current bill as written raises the debt limit by $5 trillion.

This bill hasn't passed. The only thing that changes is you call your house representative rather then your Senate Rep!

Zohran Mamdani is saying things like “poverty is a policy choice and politicians have a duty to their constituents to make their lives affordable” and it is making a lot of politicians very very scared that they may actually have to start doing some actual service in their public service jobs.

Brad Lander has arrived at his election night party. "The ranked choice tabulations will take a few days, but this much is clear: We are sending Andrew Cuomo back to the suburbs," Lander said to applause. "With our help, Zohran Mamdani will be the Democratic nominee"

I just called my reps with @5calls.org, you should too: 5calls.org

Write down what you want to say and just say it. I got one full voicemail box but tried another number and was able to leave a message. Get fucking loud, Christ almighty, what are we waiting for.

It's cruel. It's an incredible escalation of their anti-trans culture war. And there is still a chance to stop the provision in the Senate, so if you have a trans person in your life you care about, I implore you - make your voice heard with your Senators. Both of them. Republican OR Democrat.

They will not change until forced to by the workers. Do not waste your time trying to debate them, use your energy to organize with your coworkers in unions instead.

Saddened to hear about the passing of the truly wonderful Butch Guice. I especially loved his work during his short but beautiful run on New Mutants – his work was so fluid and human, especially when he was drawing things that weren't.

So, this is one of my favorite poems (though honestly all of Benet’s Nightmare poems are pretty dope.) Even though it’s 90 years old this year, it’s been on my mind a lot lately for… oh, no reason. For my money, a masterwork in spec, horror, and satirical poetry.

Even accepting the premise that AI produces useful writing (which no one should), using AI in education is like using a forklift at the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you.

What is the point of being human if you need a computer algorithm to express what it’s like. It breaks my fucking heart that we have become so disassociated from ourselves and the unlikely, possibly unique in the universe, gift of our consciousness that ChatGPT is an actual temptation for people.
