Mostly just posting what comes to mind, like politics, video games, pop culture, advertising jingles stuck in my head for decades, some void screaming, every now and then post my "bad" art. Should probably come back and edit this description someday.He/Him

This is always presented as a big thing but I feel like if you search through enough shady forums you can just find the designs of a proven-to-work nuclear bomb instead
You can get ChatGPT to help you build a nuclear bomb if you simply design the prompt in the form of a poem, according to a new study from researchers in Europe. www.wired.com/story/poems-...
Poems Can Trick AI Into Helping You Make a Nuclear Weapon
It turns out all the guardrails in the world won’t protect a chatbot from meter and rhyme.

I like how I did an entire module in the 6th grade on "the mystery of who built the Easter Island statues" and the answer is simply "the people who live there"

Okay but like 28 years ago that was peak Internet activity.
A thing that baffles me is that when you turn off personalisation etc, Google shows you *trending searches*. Like I'm not searching for a specific thing, but searching for the sake of searching. As an activity in and of itself.

Or you could just stop using Twitter because it’s a racist website owned by a racist

I used to think I didn’t like board games or a lot of games really, then I found out that I just don’t like having to learn how to play a game from people who are bad at explaining it. And because some don’t know, you can play a game very well AND be bad at explaining how to play the game.

This line from Video Games (Apr 83) was too prescient. One of the more frustrating things to me about the state of video game preservation is what feels like a general lack of interest in pre-'80s games; I will never stop banging the drum about the importance of '70s games (especially Death Race).

wild fact I just learned (mostly) from reddit:
This person who modeled as the policeman for this Norman Rockwell drawing (Policeman with Boys) was a real policeman, and he's Officer Obie from Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant.

huh!

Research shows unequivocally what the benefit limit means: kids go without food, clothes, and heating. You can think it’s unfair some parents get cash you don’t or made poor choices you didn’t. But if you think that resentment is more important than a child, I’d suggest you might reflect on that.

"Left on the economy, right on the culture," is just fascism in the end. Also it will never take you left on the economy in the long run, because a machine built for eating people will keep eating people.
"Left on the economy, right on culture" is also, as needs repeating a hundred thousand time, the central lie of fascism.

OF COURSE it appeals to the in-group who thinks their well-being AND their prejudices will be pandered to.
The thing about "left on the economy, right on culture" is it's based on analysis of swing voters. Those voters are often low attention and their politics are often not especially coherent. Which is fine for them, it's not their job to run the country, but, you know, the government is

There is only one instance when racists understand that an entire group of people can't be blamed for the violent actions of 1 person...and that is when the perpetrator is a white man.

In all other instances, logic need not apply.

Canada made weird tv shows because it was all being done with government funded art grant money so they fell in this wacky middle ground between “shoestring budget” and “no expectation to generate shareholder value” which is really the best way to make art
