57% of all ad spending by Republicans in the Virginia governors race was on anti trans ads. Just an incredibly mismanaged campaign. Anti-trans politics are a losing issue.

i'm a very biased party here but pretty much everything about the Mamdani campaign and the discourse around it thus far is a pretty thorough vindication of Africana Studies
It is worth saying that putting “Africana studies” in scare quotes as if it’s a ridiculous concept is not a political argument. It’s just racism. “Africa is not worthy of a major” is the implication. Yeah dude you’re just racist. (From Gerard Baker at the WSJ today)

Happy about this agreement but let’s be clear: the “challenged industry” is Broadway shows making record profits while the people who make eight shows a week happen are struggling to keep up with the cost of living in NYC

But glad an agreement was reached and strike averted!
Broadway has averted a strike that could have done serious damage to an already challenged industry. The tentative agreement, which still requires ratification by union members, comes five days after a similar agreement with actors and stage managers.

Hopefully I’ll have clips to share soon. It’s hard to put into words how special the night was. Some devotees of Carmines’ music made the trip or tuned in; some friends and family became new fans of this unbelievable score.
Patrick offered some terrific insight into the history of the show and shared the story of how it found us. I talked a bit about what it’s meant to transcribe Carmines’s extravagant virtuosity. And we got to perform with a stellar cast.
Yesterday my spouse Patrick and I put on a concert of the 1971 Al Carmines musical JOAN at The Green Room 42. Two original cast members came to see it. So did Peter Filichia, cohost of “This Week on Broadway”—and here he is talking about seeing the show nearly 50 years ago, two nights in a row.
One person driving by our local protest started chanting “We need a king! We need a king!” so it does seem to be frying their circuits.
David Sacks is currently posting AI content of Trump as a king and Dems kneeling if you were wondering where his brain is at

we're getting to the point with this weekend where if you are a person who needs protesting advice, you should probably ignore any protest advice not coming from like the NLG, ALCU etc because random people are not having the best ideas about it right now

Oriana Korol, a clarinetist with the Unpresidented Brass Band, was arrested after a man and federal agents barreled into band members who were standing across the street from the ICE office and playing the theme from “Ghostbusters.”

So what do you say, J.D. Vance? You once feared Trump could be the American Adolf Hitler. But that seems to be the hope of the new generation of Republicans you’ve raised. Will you denounce this outbreak of antisemitism, racism and fascism in your party?
EXCLUSIVE: Thousands of leaked messages show leaders of Young Republican groups joking about gas chambers, slavery and rape in a private Telegram chat.

This is the AI using the details of a previous atrocity to caption a brand-new atrocity, right?

New — Video shared with me shows ICE officers in DC detaining a man on Friday.

Bystander filming asks man for his name. ICE agent lies and says he’s not allowed to speak to him “by law” and another says “We’ve arrested American citizens for being too close…If he gets any closer, put him in cuffs.”
Just rewatched this and was surprised to learn that the movie is based on a Pete Townshend concept album which is itself based on a novel by Ted Hughes that he wrote to comfort his children after the death of their mother/his wife, Sylvia Plath.

I made a video a while back about hidden rhymes in *Into the Woods* that includes Sondheim’s use of the word “dwell.” Well, “dwells.”

Awful and dangerous to hear the Mayor echo the transphobic bigotry coming from the Trump administration. It's completely at odds with the values of our city and another reason why his single, disgraced term in office cannot end soon enough.
