You are not wrong to be angry. You are not wrong to grieve. That is what it means to love and to see the people you love hurt.

We must turn that love, that anger, and all of that sorrow into action.

We must rise up as leaders, we must be loud in the streets, we must be bold and not give into fear.
There is a crude power to openly embracing stupidity on a national scale. The Trump administration telling huge lies like this as a matter of course in order to further their leader's ambitions is part of their crude attempt to control us all.
Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on tariffs: "It's not regressive. Most consumption in America is done by the wealthiest people. So the idea it's somehow regressive is just wrong."

This is reportedly the new assistant secretary at DHS as Tricia McLaughlin makes her exit.

I... don't think she will last long in her new role as the face of ICE.
Is... is this on purpose?

WOW. I mentioned AND used photos from these early February C-130 flights in my @rollingstone.com story last fall about the Coast Guard using search-and-rescue planes for ICE transfers. Had no idea the misuse of resources I suggested had already happened.

Each arrest takes like a half dozen agents. They just don’t have the manpower for this. I am not even sure where the marginal utility of this type of thing would be. Maybe if they concentrated their efforts in one congressional district or something.
One of my biggest fears about the midterms is that ICE could flood the polls with agents who perform Kavanaugh Stops on every non-white person before they get a chance to cast a ballot, then detain them until voting is over. Which is not far-fetched at this point. www.huffpost.com/entry/ice-po...

A classmate said Fine “was a laughing stock: not just a pompous prig, but also outrageously corrupt.”

Yeah, this technology should definitely be shoehorned into every aspect of daily life.
NEW: ChatGPT and other chatbots are feeding users' fixations on real people, reinforcing users' delusional ideas and obsessions about others as they descend into unwanted harassment, stalking, and/or domestic abuse — traumatizing victims and profoundly altering lives.

This. It would be really, really great if Democrats would start *consistently* calling out the way that the media is led around like f'ing children by the right-wing hate machine.

Don't just accept the frame. Call out the frame. Force viewers to confront the frame. It's so f'ing basic.

There is no drawdown. There is no retreat. ICE is just redistributing their assets to better avoid accountability.
The same day DHS announced the surge would end in Minnesota, ICE activity increased in small towns
The less densely populated areas outside the Twin Cities make it harder for protesters and observers to organize.

The failure of imagination presented by the Clinton, Obama, and Biden years, the mire of neoliberalism, have left us with a completely flat-footed response to the current crises.

We could have civil jobs programs to build massive new infrastructure projects that would house people. Dream bigger.
Obama: "Ethically speaking, it's an atrocity in a country this wealthy we have people just on the streets, & we should insist on policies that recognize their full humanity. But we should also recognize the average person doesn't want to have to navigate around a tent city in the middle of downtown"

The right to vote is enshrined in the Constitution.

The "right" of armed federal cops to arrest, beat, and kill people with anonymity is not.

Listening to AOCs showing overseas over the last few days. She speaks like someone who is running soon, not in the future. I really hope she does. Democrats deserve a primary and she has the message that looks beyond Trump toward building a better world. No one else has offered that so far.

from the perspective of someone who might want to be president, the best time to run for the white house is now, not later. so if AOC is thinking about it — if the white house is her ambition — then her best bet is to throw her hat in the ring

She’s only 36, and there’s a good argument that she should run for Senate and bide her time. But she also could be a formidable White House candidate.

This is the text book for how every single Democrat should be responding to the current moment.

We must marshal our local and state powers against ICE, against CBP, against DHS. They must be abolished and we must protect one another. For everyone was at one time a stranger.

And if they can talk you into believing anyone else is to blame, they will keep picking your pockets and purchasing themselves politicians and getting away with it.
We can't fall into right-wing populism’s lie that the most vulnerable in society are to blame for wealth inequality in our countries. We need to build movements that tell the truth: the story of wealth inequality is not a cultural one, but a class one.
