I'm looking forward to learning how the Purcell principle doesn't apply to Democrats
NEW: The Supreme Court has received an emergency request from California’s Republican Party for Justice Elena Kagan to block the state’s new congressional map, which could help Democrats win five more U.S. House seats in the 2026 midterm election

This is shocking even for Kacsmaryk. He's articulating a vision of the First Amendment where the State gets to choose what speech is protected. It's a perversion of a fundamental constitutional right. It's so insane I don't even have a joke.
Judge Kacsmaryk writes to say that the First Amendment only protects "public discourse necessary to self-government," as he slurs drag and holds it not protected.

It's fascinating that Kyrsten Sinema was sued in NC state court, which now has all fillings available online, more than three months ago, and it's only getting attention now that it's been removed to federal court.

"Star Trek is woke now" is the best way to make it clear you've never watched a single bit of Star Trek ever.
In the scene depicted, the instructor is teaching quantum physics and temporal mechanics. She calls out a student who is being an ass and doesn't even know his classmates' names. But to bigots, the mere presence of an LGBTQI+ actor (Tig Notaro) is "DEI training."

A per curiam opinion with a dissent. More profiles in judicial courage.
JUST IN: Big win for the Trump administration in the 3rd Circuit, ruling that a federal judge in NJ never had jurisdiction to consider Mahmoud Khalil's challenge to his detention.

Unclear what immediate effect it will have given tangle of other issues/rulings.

Yup. Alienation of affection is just for the affection. Criminal conversation is for the physical act, let's say.

There was a push to limit these torts after former NC House Speaker and current US Rep Tim Moore got sued for AoA- a push led by Moore. It didn't go anywhere, to my recollection.
North Carolina juries loved awarding big damages to successful plaintiffs, that’s been limited a bit.

The key: the plaintiff has to prove the third party enticed the unfaithful martial party to commit adultery.*

*This isn’t limited to cheaters. Non-romantic friends and family can also be liable.

NC legal tip of the day: alienation of affection has teeth in North Carolina. We have seen multi-million dollar verdicts for these claims.

So grab your popcorn, this one is gonna be fun to watch.

16 hours in, my guess this was all intended basically as a coup to put VP Delcy Rodriguez in power (likely without her knowledge but 🤷).

At least for democracy & human rights, that might be even worse than the "opening shots in a war" scenario.

All speculation, but let me explain:

"I sincerely hope the leopard isn't eating my face"
The pipeline project is in GOP Rep Lauren Boebert's district. Boebert recently challenged Trump to force the release of the Epstein files. Boebert has issued a blistering statement reading, in part, "I sincerely hope this veto has nothing to do with political retribution."
