Ninth journalist I'm aware of ICE has targeted in apparent retaliation for exercising Constitutionally protected rights.

Nothing damages American more than being so small/weak/petty that you abuse government resources to target speech.

Hard to imagine something more unpatriotic and un-American.

Back in April, I had the opportunity to report this story for @boltsmag.org on the community patrols that @uniondelbarrio.bsky.social has been organizing to identify potential ICE presence in San Diego. Please take the time to read this piece and learn how organizers in San Diego are fighting back.
A group in San Diego has been patrolling neighborhoods to identify potential ICE presence. They keep watch for vehicles that may belong to federal agencies, and use livestreams, radios, and social media to keep communities informed.
How Volunteer Patrols Are Working to Protect San Diego Immigrant Communities From ICE
In response to mass deportation threats and mixed messages from county leaders on federal cooperation, San Diego organizers are taking action to inform residents of ICE activity.

Update: TikTok sent us a comment saying our story “deliberately distorts and sensationalizes how we respond to legal requests.”

They again did not answer our Qs about whether they’re sharing data with ICE, or why it is no longer their policy to tell you before they give the government your data.
New from me: TikTok ignored repeated questions about whether and how they share data with ICE. Also, earlier this year, they quietly updated their policies about what happens when law enforcement asks for your data. 1/

TikTok Won’t Say If It’s Giving ICE Your Data
Changes to TikTok's policies make it easier for the company to share users’ personal information with governments. TikTok did not respond to questions about the changes.

I had the opportunity to meet @abbymartin.bsky.social the other day at the San Diego Islamic Center last night at the Israel Uncovered seminar. I’ve been an admirer of her reporting since she was on RT. It was a wonderful evening and I appreciate her sharing some insight after the seminar.
I am thrilled to announce that I've been elected as the next Vice President of the Society of the San Diego-Tijuana chapter of the NAHJ. I’m honored to serve our resilient community & advocate for Chicano/Latino journalists & media workers who have been working tirelessly in our ever changing field.
I have a new report out on the Times of San Diego. My latest report covers how UCSD faculty are demanding more transparency over the UC Office of the President’s alleged release of personal information to federal agencies. You can read more down in the link below!

Send messages to CA Governor Gavin Newsom to ask him to veto the Zionist Censorship Bill, AB 715, which codifies any criticism of Israel war crimes or teaching about the truth of Palestinian resistance to occupation as being "anti-semitism".

If you search for “AB 1715” today, you’ll find a triumphant message from its proponents. If you do it really quickly, you may be able to see both their threat to continue and expand the extirpation of noxious views and my reply (calling them Trump-like cowards who betray the best Jewish values.)

The story attached above isn’t a report on last night’s votes; that came from an activist’s Facebook feed. But that story provides the background of the controversy — and the motive to shield tender children from feeling associated with war crime and genocide claims.

Late last night, with scant public notice—despite objections by the California Teachers Association, ACLU, and allies—both California legislative houses approved AB 715. It bans criticizing Israel, Zionism, and the term “Palestine” in classrooms. NO ONE voted “nay”. It is now on Gov. Newsom’s desk.

Lawmakers pushed AB 715 through despite 8:1 opposition & clear warnings from educators.

The bill chills discussion on Palestine/Islamophobia, leans on the controversial IHRA definition, & mandates immediate removal of materials.

Add your voice: Tell Gov. Newsom to veto AB 715.
