I used to think we had transitioned to the grift economy, but I realize now that we've been forever stuck in the extraction economy.

I cant wait until you can take out loans to support your gambling addiction as one final mechanism to funnel all cash to the ultra wealthy.

I don't understand how these people can fail to recognize the dystopia they seem to be advocating.

We want to turn everything into a casino and use it as an extraction mechanism to funnel more wealth directly to the wealthiest people in history.

Freedom! Merit! Entrepreneurialism! Or whatever.

I wish this was about his absolute shit economics takes rather than his abhorrent Epstein connection, but I’ll take it.

I’m sure he will sleep well at night surrounded by his intense wealth, but hopefully the public embarrassment haunts his dreams.

That sort of language is sure to upset the donor/pundit class. He should definitely tone it down to “the undeniably good force of the free market want to destroy our democracy.”
Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries: “Strong floor, no ceiling”

Colombian President Gustavo Petro: “A clan of pedophiles wants to destroy our democracy.”

Yet another long feature article about political violence that refuses to acknowledge the basic reality that right-wing violence is far more common than left-wing violence.

The fact that mainstream media hasn't figured out how to handle the gish gallop, non sequitur, filibustering yet is an indictment of their whole project.

If you can't best a dim bulb like Noem in an interview, what does that say about you?
Kristi Noem refuses to directly answer a question about what Trump means by "remigration" -- a word that, as Kristen Welker notes, is often invoked by white nationalists in Europe

Shoving these LLMs into almost every aspect of our economy in a desperate bid to replace human labor with digital slaves who constantly lie can only be a recipe for success.

Thankfully, the entirety of the stock market isn't backstopped by this floundering (and worsening) technology.

I've been frustrated by this forever. I'm not sure what the point of maintaining access if all your reporting is either a) being lied to constantly or b) being used as a tool of propaganda.

What's the point?
We saw on Friday elite solidarity rather than professional solidarity when Trump called a female reporter “piggy” and not a single one of her colleagues came to her defense—presumably because they didn’t want to threaten their own proximity to power.
Moral rot in elite journalism is killing the whole field
The Nuzzi/RFK Jr. mess and the revelation of Esptein's journo pals lay bare a profound moral absence at the heart of our free press.

You can't because this framing specifically is designed to say, "I'm for sensible things without actually outlining policies for those things "

You are for safe neighborhoods? Great. Is that in opposition to leftists? No? What policy position are you taking to keep neighborhoods safe?
Name the ‘moderate position’ on literally any issue. Quickly.

When the conservative movement tells you who they are .... BELIEVE THEM!

W/o serious, sustainable pushback from all of polite society, things will continue to get so much worse. Eventually there will be a new political influencer that thinks Fuentes isn't hardcore enough dragging things rightward.
the bleakest moment in this article is the point where a heritage staffer, horrified by fuentes, discovers that "a growing number" of heritage interns are groypers
My assumption is that the New York Post has better sources inside Heritage than most other press outlets. One tidbit of note: Princeton's Robert P. George, a Heritage trustee, is said to be pushing fellow board members to oust its president Kevin Roberts. Hope he succeeds.

Pure cruelty.

Officially, stores cannot give SNAP recipients preferential treatment absent a waiver, w waivers given to places encouraging healthy eating.

So obvs a rule aimed at preventing junk-food places from targeting SNAP.

This is … SO much not that.

And this enforcement is a CHOICE.
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

Poll: Americans say “too divided”
Pundit: Dems are being too divisive

Poll: Legal system unfair
Pundit: The public thinks Trump should get away with crimes

Poll: Low trust in media
Pundits: MSM is too far left

Every time they see a nonspecific term and assume everyone thinks like a Republican.
I will never understand the pundit obsession with getting Democrats to solve "political division."

Not only is this what they're already doing, but Klein admits that Republicans will never do the same. So elections will remain constant GOP smears and simping Democratic promises of bipartisanship.

It's rich that Klein of all people would weigh in on this. He's the quintessential lib pundit who 1) talks to no one on the ground, 2) has no relevant expertise at all, and yet 3) is confident in the path forward. It's the pundits and consultants who have strangled the party to death!

Yes. Very casually turning the SSFA into a determination that any statute addressing race discrimination must be time-bound. Just absolutely untrue. An utter usurpation of Congress’ enforcement power under the 14th & 15th Amendments.
Justice Kavanaugh in the Callais oral argument keeps alluding to some longstanding requirement of strict scrutiny that use of race have a time limit. This is invented.

You know, to paraphrase @kenwhite.bsky.social , if you joke about some things, it’s kind of like ‘ironically’ fucking a goat.

Sure, you may say it’s for irony or performance art or to be provocative or whatever, but at the end of the day, you’re still balls deep in a goat.
JD Vance dismisses Young Republicans who in a group chat said "I love Hitler" and joked about slavery and rape as "a bunch of kids" who "told stupid jokes" and adds that "most of the stupid things I did when I was a teenager and young adult, they're not on the internet."

No, it's just doing politics "the right way" or something.

This is a wild quotation. The man, realizing his eugenic, Nazi solution to the homeless was a bit too far for most audiences, eked back into acceptable dialogue without demonstrating a change of heart is "doing it the right way" and not pushing the Overton window rightward towards death camps.
Brian Kilmeade carefully considered the criticism of his stance and changed his mind, conceding that not all homeless people should be liquidated by lethal injection. That’s doing politics the right way.
