A Sword Would Be Easier
I now understand all those fantasy epics where the protagonist’s motivation is that they made a promise to somebody on their deathbed…

Trying to figure out a design i can lino print for Christmas cards when I'm not actually very good at lino printing. And also reads a line between whimsy and goth since there will only be one design that has to suit all recipients.

today is the feast of St Catharine of Alexandria, patron of female scholars, so enjoy this painting of her shutting down a senior prof who treated her paper's question time as an opportunity to hold an impromptu paper of his own

Don't worry about me, but maybe share Skyla's direct buy store b/c that's where she makes the absolute most money - and she has vet bills. I cannot imagine seeing an author post "I have two cats nearing the end" and go oh, I should steal from her.

Oh good yes. I love it when all my joints and bones start hurting simultaneously for no apparent reason. Perfect. Wonderful.

I detect this in a lot of the Type A grindset entrepreneur podcast bros - a sense that if they ever stopped working, or at least if they ever stopped *performing* productiveness, they'd turn gauzy & vanish. That an afternoon down by the river playing Pooh sticks would leave them tweaking & jittery.

A movie that takes place where you're from.

(There's a few filmed on location but this is actually set there)

Not sure why it's happening today, but that's twice now I've had things trigger memories and quite strong emotions about my aunt's suicide.
One kind of makes sense: a headline about a similar cause of death. But the first trigger was a lot more abstract and surprised me. (CN for rest of thread) 1

Definitely made the right call! The classes today were intense and fast (lots of milonga and rhythmical music).
I might not be able to go to tango this evening if i want to go to tango tomorrow. (I'm so tired and feel kinda sick)
(Milonga tonight, workshops tomorrow).

Stupid chronic illness being chronic. And an illness.

genuine appeal to feminists who are haven't realised it yet: trans women are on your side. TERFS aren't
No way I’m sharing Stock’s UnHerd article. But I am going to point to this bit which amply demonstrates the anti-trans=>anti-women’s rights pipeline. “Abortions should only be done for a highly restricted set of reasons. They should not be just nodded through for any reason a pregnant woman likes.”

I am captivated
late 19th century con artist in a new small town going into the public library to check out some of the local records, IMMEDIATELY clocking the head librarian as a Potential Issue. He's talking to the local police constable, everyone says he's suspicious by nature, he's Not easily charmed at all

I don't think people realise how terrible shelters can be for people, especially those that only offer 1 night at a time. At best it's daily anxiety and uncertaintity about getting a bed for the night, having nowhere to put your bags down and little privacy. At best.
At worst it's far far worse.
not shelters, though. shelters are mostly kicking the can, and a lot of people prefer camping to shelters because camping feels safer and more humane.

you gotta be willing to talk to people individually and figure out stuff like "this guy needs three months in a real apartment to find a job."

People are good actually #1765:

Two women working in cafe are trying to restart Alexa after the wifi went down.
First woman, for some reason, whispering: Alexa play George Ezra.
Alexa, also whispering: i'm sorry i didn't hear that.
Second woman: whoops with laughter.
We all have a giggle.

I do not like "clumsy" as a defining character feature. It doesn't actually tell me much about them. At best you get "they're clumsy but they managed to do the thing anyway" at worst it's a recurring "joke" or source of mockery (that they then "bravely" overcome).
