Writing is just the start. Dawn Kofie's guest post on the skills content designers actually need struck a chord this year: persuading, listening, resilience, presenting and compromising. Plus some brilliant book recommendations.

Rob Reiner either made your favorite movie, or made somebody you know’s favorite movie. If you’re a Californian, he’s also part of the reason you or your friends can get married. He has changed more lives for the better than this asshole commenting on him ever did.

I think the fundamental gap here is that non-creative people think that creative people make things for the end product, when in fact it’s the act of creation and not the end point that makes it worthwhile.

The fact is no presenter has ever had to leave the BBC for expressing conservative views, or even explicitly endorsing a right-wing party.

This overlaps with a challenging mode of decision-making in orgs: validation.

I've made a decision, and invested some effort into executing it. Now I need you to validate that decision.

If you find any problems we can still fix, we'll fix them. But if you find problems we can't fix — don't.
Per my last re-post, twice this year I've been commissioned to write reviews of harms that can arise from the use of LLMs and then, as we surface the harms, told
it's not appropriate to be political.
But LLMs are a deeply extractive technology, they are political by design.

Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

One of the best things you can do for neurodivergent people when giving instructions is incredibly simple:

✨ Write. Them. Down. ✨

Clear written instructions aren’t just helpful - they’re accessibility

An independent taskforce *just* did a huge review of ADHD in England, and the conclusion was that it's "under-recognised, under-diagnosed and under-treated."
