a position i have refused to stop defending is that part of the problem in HS education right now is that the kids see the scamworld we built. they are gambling on sports and crypto during classtime. why learn jack shit if its all up to the gods of chance anyway?
The 2008 Great Financial Crisis revealed that Western capital had built a scam economy skimming off the top of the greatest economic engine in human history, the difference now is just that everyone gets to get in on it. www.jezebel.com/gambling-is-...

It's remarkable how perfectly this awful story is similar to The Dreyfuss Affair, from the banishment to a cruel tropical prison to the world's worst and stupidest people refusing to let it go even for decades after he was freed.
This is just some ordinary dude no one had ever heard of, quietly getting by, and the administration has decided in a fit of pique to hound him for the rest of his life because otherwise they'd have to tacitly admit they're capricious incompetent villains. Just let him live, ffs
BREAKING: At 7am ET, in response to the emergency overnight filing, Judge Xinis issued a TRO barring the Trump administration from re-detaining Abrego Garcia.

One of the many reasons AI can't produce good writing is it can't hate its own writing. It can't think to itself "Maybe I'm illiterate" during the writing process. And that's essential

This. This was the formative event of my generation & our entire politics in 🇺🇸. The structural break after which we were no longer a full democracy, when 5 Wizards In Robes decided they were a super-legislature & counting all the actual votes didn’t matter. The rest has been 25 years of commentary.
25 years ago today, SCOTUS elected George W Bush president of the United States by blocking completion of a voting canvass in Florida. A subsequent canvass by the Associated Press showed that Bush's rival, Al Gore, had won the race in Florida—and thus the contest for the presidency—by 700 votes.

The richest 10% control 94% of total capital-ownership assets in the United States. They determine how to use our labour and resources, what we produce, and how our surplus is deployed. They determine the direction of our civilization. It is the antithesis of democracy.

I hate republicans but I hate democrats more because they are supposed to be on my side. They are fragging me in the foxhole while I am shooting at fascists. To me that is direct betrayal versus fascists doing what they said they would do.

For all Universal HC/Single Payer/M4A advocates.

What do the biggest, expensive hospital chains do. Do they opt out and only serve the rich ?

Who in the USA gov runs the program?

R U ok with having to see a primary care doc before you can see a specialist ?

Yeah that's kind of why you can't let woo go in your personal circles. It's really insidious because people react like you're discriminating against their religious beliefs when you don't think they should start selling a MLM product full time after reading the secret.
This is strictly a personal observation from living in LA, but RFK scares me so much because otherwise orthodox liberals with a woo food and chemicals streak are being converted into lunatic conservatives.
SCOOP: Academy Award-nominee Liam Neeson narrated a recent anti-vaccine documentary that glorifies RFK Jr.’s rise to power.

In the film, Neeson—a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador—calls the COVID-19 vaccines “dangerous experiments.”

It's very clear that unlimited wealth causes brain damage. That's not an exaggeration.

It's similar to other unnatural human conditions like solitary confinement (which is widely understood to cause mental deterioration) and other types of sensory deprivation.

Most past societies, in fact, had some kind of social and cultural sanctions against the endless accumulation of wealth: Maybe some Dominican friars would stand outside your trading firm's office and tell you you were all going to hell, or your peers would make fun of you.

I read a book on making money in ancient Athens recently (by Michael Leese, it's great), and the Greeks absolutely believed that the endless pursuit of wealth was a serious moral defect and personality issue no different than being a drunk or sexual deviant.

we're ruled by libidinous creeps who can only get hard for power and there's no greater power than death so there is nothing more affirming of their little boy masculinity, nothing hotter, nothing more Presidential, than killing. but of course this was decades ago, that's probably fixed now

This presumes that the barrier to solving our problems is technological. It is not. We have had the tech for decades. Our barrier is distributional.

Being optimistic means implementing existing solutions rather than endless can kicking in hope of finding magic solutions.
Really refuse to let the worst people have ownership of techno-optimism

You may be tempted to think of prompt injection attacks against language models as "social engineering." Resist this temptation.

Prompt injection is a mathematical attack against a non-deterministic system. Language may be the substrate, but the substance is numerical vectors.
