Once upon a time (or, before internet access was as accessible as it is today) anime magazines played a key role in keeping anime fans plugged in to what was going on in the anime industry. Bigger, bolder, and glossier than its competition, Newtype USA was easily among the most popular anime publications in the west before suddenly going out of print in 2008.

You'll gain a LOT more appreciation for the work people put into their fandoms if you try it yourself!

I don't personally read fanfic but this applies to so much. We're making fandom for free at best, paying money to do it at worst

The NYT's anti-trans fear mongering was cited in a Supreme Court briefing that stripped away the rights of trans kids. They need to be fully blacklisted by queer people and their allies. Don't work for them. Don't use them for book press. Don't speak with them for stories. They made their bed.
