Hi Bluesky! 👋 Hope to find community again in a better space. I am scared and pissed and hopeful that we can survive all this. When not worrying about the world, I take orders from these two cats. I knit 🧶 for stress relief, mostly baby blankets. Pleased to meet you all 🙂

Yesterday, five-year-old Liam and his dad Adrian were released from Dilley detention center. I picked them up last night and escorted them back to Minnesota this morning.

Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.

There are more of us than there are of them. Our sincere love for each other and our simple wish to live is stronger than their hate.

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

Very worth the read. In contrast to the dehumanization they try with Alex Pretti, Renee Good, and the countless others who are snatched away whose names we do not know, we must re-humanize at every turn. Don't look away. We are not yet better than all this. But we can be. We must be.
I wrote about my childhood friend Alexi Pretti. Please read it and share it and remember him as a human being. @theverge.com

This. This. This! Do not let up pressure.
The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

Gov Pritzker is exactly right. But be careful because this may be the thing for those who have recently come out against ICE and its funding to back off. Keep up all the pressure on your Reps and Senators.
Who’s next?

One demotion cannot detract from accountability.

Greg Bovino and Trump’s agents must still be held responsible for the killings and the damage they’ve done to America.

It is so legit remarkable to see a political leader of something clearly and positively explain how government is doing everyday things to benefit its citizens. Democrats need to learn everything they can from this type of communication style.
We're getting a snowstorm tomorrow. But New York City is prepared.

Live coverage by Status Coup News at the scene of the latest shooting/murder by ICE. None of the people who are part of ICE should ever be allowed back into polite society. They should be shunned for the rest of their lives.

Worth reading this 🧵

Hope.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

Please seek help.

This post came up in my feed. Indignantly challenging people to block her for her reaction. I responded to SOMEONE ELSE who asked who decides what "culturally normal" is. I responded to that person that it was people in power: white, cishet people. SHE blocked ME. Sensitive much? LOL, ok lady.
