Bill Mather’s hauntingly beautiful matte painting of Gotham City for BATMAN RETURNS (1992). Flawless.
A snow-covered Gotham skyline at nighttime with the Gotham Zoo in the foreground. Black space in the middle of painting for projection.

Salvation Army seen feeding ICE today. For anyone who doesn't already know about their bigotry, here is more, No need to give them your money this Christmas, or ever.

It’s dinner time for the police. Appears to be pizza from a Salvation Army van.

Broadview’s “free speech” curfew starts soon, at 6pm.

no one sympathizes with how much psychic pain the administration is causing me, specifically, as a lawyer. i was trained for decades to believe facts were something you could engage in a process of finding, and that rights were more or less established at a bare minimum level. think of the lawyers!!

Who keeps casting him? Apparently, he does.

Allegedly, he attaches himself to a project as executive producer and puts up some of the budget as long as he can star in it.

Pitch: A movie star whose moves always bomb, just pure box office poison, who studios use as a sort of franchise hitman to tank any tentpole movie for tax purposes. ENTOURAGE meets THE PRODUCERS. And make sure you rack up the budget on this thing because I've got the perfect guy to play the lead

Al Pacino says in his memoir that after he went bankrupt, Diane Keaton gloriously went off on his entertainment lawyer. “Yeah, you’re going to tell me, ‘Oh, he’s an artist.’ No. He. Is. An idiot.”
“Arthur began to explain that I was insolvent, due to mismanagement of my assets. He didn’t play a part in it, I know that. But the words just washed right over me.
Diane, however, was furious. She got up from her seat, and she started to question him: “How could this happen?” He was hemming and hawing, well, you know, this and that.
She just exploded. She went up to Arthur and was now face-to-face with him. She backed him into a corner of his office, pointed at me, and said, “Do you know who he is?”
			He said, “Well, you know.”
She was practically grabbing him by the lapels: “No, tell me who he is.” He started to speak, but Diane jumped in again: “Yeah, you’re going to tell me, ‘Oh, he’s an artist.’ No. He. Is. An idiot.”
I just stood there. What could I say?
Diane went on: “He’s an ignoramus. When it comes to this, you’ve got to take care of him.”

seems like a non-insignificant percentage of rage against the machine's fanbase are young republican men driving SUVs bopping their head to anti-oil, pro-immigrant songs thinking the lyrics are about how they wish their suburban parents would get off their back
Tom Morello tweets: "Fascinating that all those “don’t tread on me” posers and their AR-15’s are nowhere to be seen and government tyranny is instead being opposed by a guy in an inflatable frog suit."

Someone named Manny replies: "@grok
why do some people say Tom Morello and band mates are RAGE FOR THE MACHINE and not against ?"

Sometimes I get morbidly curious about what Geoff Johns is doing in his Geiger comics, where he doesn't have access to DC characters.

But I see he's simply renaming DC characters and just doing that.
The cover to a Junkyard Joe, a robot WW2 soldier. A G.I. Robot, if you will. He's surrounded in boxes by "The Junkyard Dogs" who are just Sgt. Rock and Easy Company. Another Junkyard Joe cover. Him popping out of a retro style comic page. He's, again, a humanoid robot in a WW2 uniform. The only difference between him and G.I. Robot is he's silver instead of gold.

the ending of THE GODFATHER, the best american movie ever made, doesn't work without diane keaton's final look --- at the realization of who she's married and what her life is going to become and what corruption lurks behind closed doors. unforgettable, inimitable work. RIP.

How come major film studios keep being like Jared Leto may have allegations, but at least he looks weird, stars in box office bombs, and is not a good actor

I think Zohran is great and inspiring and much needed right now, but all he's doing is like the job as it's supposed to be. Starts with a set of principles and advocates for them. It's like how everyone goes crazy for Chotiner for just doing the job. Not an indictment on either of them but the rest.

I feel like this theory also explains why the “Trump is weird” approach that Walz hit on last year was so effective and why everything fell apart once the consultants got involved and told him to act normal.

Being mad at Ms Rachel is a pretty good tell that you're just mad that people care about Palestine at all— many such cases actually but in that context these people will die mad because people will always care

Jared Leto may have a toxic reputation, he may have a wildly unappealing screen presence, but say what you will, he also can't open a movie either.

Daily DBZ 149. Android 17 and Piccolo continue to battle and destroy the islands around the Kame House, setting off volcanic eruptions. Hey Piccolo, maybe cool it? Its starting to look a little Namek-y around here, huh?
Piccolo fires a massive beam from his hands, Android 17 flies up from below blocking the beam with his hand. Behind them, a volcano erupts in smoke.

Buried in Michigan's antiporn bill is a provision to effectively outlaw "circumvention tools," such as VPNs.

Mark my words: legislators will increasingly leverage porn panic to restrict or ban VPNs, and to limit internet privacy far beyond adult sites.
Experts raise privacy concerns over Michigan bill targeting pornography and VPNs
Rep. Josh Schriver, the bill’s sponsor, says the law is designed to target only producers and distributors of pornography, not everyday internet users.

the original tron is so goddamned stylish and they updated its aesthetics to look like an apple store

I think what's impressive about TRON is that, visually, it's still so much more interesting than any of it's sequels. It's crazy that they tried update this digital world by making it as 'realistically rendered' as possible. It's a complete misunderstanding of the original's charm.
