We just deactivated our Twitter account and wow, that's a weight lifted!

Musk is a problem and he has been for a long time. We've been shifting our weight to Bluesky for a while, but we're no longer content to lurk on the other site anymore. (1/4)

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

"her memory is a cloud she can't hold..."

Lots of feels with this poem for my mum. Sent with love for anyone with a parent or loved one with Alzheimer's/dementia. It's a journey.

(And thank you @poetsorg.bsky.social and Rick Barot for sharing this one. It means a lot.)

Trump is escalating his assault on American cities. His attempt to deploy National Guard troops to Portland and Chicago are unbelievably frightening.

But they’re also a sign that Trump knows he’s rapidly losing time and popular support.
President Trump says he would invoke the Insurrection Act 'if it was necessary'
Trump said he would consider invoking the Insurrection Act to deploy the military into cities if courts block his deployment of National Guard troops.

Republicans just shut down the government to rip away healthcare and hand Trump another blank check for his illegal power grab. Instead of negotiating a budget that protects families, Republicans chose to throw working families under the bus. This is the GOP’s shutdown & they own the damage from it.

People of Illinois, we need your help.

Get your cell phones out – record what you see. Put it on social media. Peacefully ask for badge numbers and identification. Speak up for your neighbors.

We need to let the world know this is happening – and that we won’t stand for it.

Senate Democrats must hold the line. (If for no other reason than self-preservation. There's not much point in voting for an opposition party that doesn't oppose anything.)

The clock is ticking.

If Congress doesn’t permanently extend the Affordable Care Act’s tax credits, 22 MILLION people will see a 75% spike in their health insurance premiums - and EVERYONE’S costs will go up.

This is a health care crisis working families can’t afford.
