Instead of folding like cheap chairs, Democrats should have forced the GOP to end the shutdown by killing the filibuster. Holding onto the archaic, antidemocratic tradition doesn't help them stop fascism, it makes them complicit to it.

With higher ed funding under threat, university presses are tuning out the noise & sticking to their values, reports @publisherswkly.bsky.social. University presses remain committed to publishing works that will build a better society. Read more: https://bit.ly/43pEj33

Obsessive devotion to continuity is the enemy of epic/mythological storytelling—especially when there are many authors involved. Whether we're talking about Star Wars, superheroes, or Bond, the answer is to nail the essence of the story and care less about making it all "fit."
Or just have him start the next film alive and well and then at some point have someone be like "Bond! I thought you got blown up!" And then have him quip "you know better than to listen to rumors," or "what can I say? That was no time to die" and then absolutely refuse to explain further

Really, Elon, which translation of The Odyssey do you prefer? I’ve read and enjoyed the Fagles, the Lombardo, and the Wilson, but I don’t care for the Fitzgerald.
And the Iliad is not about fighting for princesses. I’ve read only the Fagles, but that much I know.

An averaging-machine cannot replicate the development of a unique human perspective, because that’s not what it’s designed to do. It literally can’t.

UPDATE: The Senate votes 53-47 to shoot down the Baldwin amendment to extend ACA funds for 1 year. A party-line vote with every Republican rejecting it.
An important vote in this series: Tammy Baldwin’s proposal to extend ACA expiring funds for 1 year. It’s structured as a motion to table (i.e. scrap it from the amendment tree). But it’ll show the appetite (or lack thereof) in the Senate to address this issue.
