I make music under the name “The Cocker Spaniels” when I’m not working two full-time jobs. I love my children; I like Prince & Guided by Voices; & I hate all forms of bigotry. I’m Black.

I’m not a Senator.

Over the next few months, I'll be making music on commission for anyone on the skyline who is able to help me with some major life expenses I need to take care over the spring and summer.

I have little patience for regular people who use language to dance around the truth instead of tell it

At this historical moment, I have NO patience for politicians who do it

I never feel bad about promoting my writing because the reason I wrote it is actually for it to be very useful to people in times just like this!

Now playing the first Nurse With Wound record I bought - Automating Volume 2 bought from some record shop under a haberdashery in Clifton, Bristol years ago. A compilation but feels very much like an album.

Nation's largest nurses union repeats calls for ICE abolition, pledges to do "everything in our power to vote out any elected official who supports funding for this all-out assault on the health, safety, and civil rights of our people."

ALWAYS
Also usually take out 50% of the adjectives

That’s a very good point; I appreciate this distinction
I try to go with "inspired by" rather than RIYL, because the latter feels like I'm saying "hey, I'm just as good as these amazing bands"

and if i say inspired by Pink Floyd, a Floyd fan can hear that in my stuff, but someone might not necessarily like what I do if they like Floyd

This is exactly why I am pro-RIYL lists
I mean, those are different genres (I mean, 3 of them are, I've never heard of metalcore but I'm willing to go with it), but they're all so closely related I don't think saying you blend them is a useful description. As a listener, I think I'd get more from a list of bands that inspire their sound.

At the moment, the only real advice I can give is to focus more on describing your music accurately than on trying to make it seem like a reinvention of the wheel
in all seriousness it would be cool if you shared your opinion on what a useful/good epk is, from the perspective of someone who doesn’t like them!

I’d actually be OK with this
actual sound: blender
January 25, 2026 at 5:07 PM
Now that’s a REAL endorsement
This is from my actual EPK:

“Treasure Hunt blends strawberries, pineapple, apples, and bananas into their morning smoothie”
From an EPK I just received:

“[band name redacted] blends metal, heavy metal, metalcore and hard rock into a genre-defying sound”

This is why I don’t normally read EPKs

At least Staind were honest enough to call an album “14 Shades of Grey”

I broke my left ankle when I was a teenager

Ever since then, I feel a slightly painful hollowness at the break whenever the weather gets colder
Cold triggers my fibro flare-ups.

Recently, my PCP confirmed that cold weather and storms tend to cause a drop air air pressure, and can adversely affect already sensitive joints/muscles

This whole time, our elders were right when they said they could feel a storm coming on
