Listen, people who say this shit are just lazy thieves. If they had all the money in the world, they'd still steal your stuff, and they throw insults around because they're perfectly aware it's wrong.
AND!
Not paying artists is exactly what ensures only the wealthy can make art, you numpties.
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

one of the coolest things about ChatGPT is how you can actually just never use it. you can fill your whole entire life with simply not once using it. it's incredible.

Right I've decided that as I'm at NEARLY 4K followers I'm going to do a thread of all my books, but instead of covers you can have gifs with the same vibe

was reading Pete what I'd written over the week & there was a whole extra chapter in there I'd forgotten about

I think it's a sign I'm enjoying this book. OR that I'm a chaotic human being, one of the two.

When I wrote about the ancient Zanclean megaflood filling the Mediterranean in as little as 12-18 months (!), it was wistfully.

I'm English. Lovely place, England, but Big Geological Drama? None of that round 'ere, sadly.

Imagine my delight at what geophysicists found in the English Channel.

one of the things I love about living in this house (as opposed to a pokey flat) is that all my things have a place. If I need desk things, they are on my desk. If I need a lipstick, it's on the dressing table.

So tired today. I'm aware that I have only a tiny sprinkling of energy left, and I'm burning through it fast. Soon I will only be fit to eat biscuits under a blanket.

very tempted to add this fine print to the bottom of our wedding invitations
In highly important news from history today, it’s the 80th anniversary of the 21st birthday of Christopher Tolkien, notable now for the wording (especially the small print) of the invitation to the party

“Are the fae open source?” is such a terrifying question in so many ways.

spoke too soon - in the inbox today, invites to feature The Sleepless in bookclubs in Detroit and Oslo.

Lads, you don't need my permission, or my money, to feature my book in a bookclub. Thanks muchly.
the AI book marketing people are having a break, I assume - it's been days since I had five or six bots jizzing themselves over how I 'blend epic fantasy stakes with nuanced characters and inventive world-building'

I do not understand authors, broadcasters, voice artists, YouTubers, ANY creative artists using quick and cheap AI for their cover images and not realising: it will be you next.

I finished Wanderstop, which was a very sweet game with a very earnest message. My favourite part was probably dying the pluffins different colours. Recommend if you want a thoughtful game that's a bit like playing a cosy fantasy novel.

I should say also that I do think that romantasy & 'fantasy with romance' are different things. In the former, the romance is A Plot, in the latter, it's B Plot. Which is why I wouldn't describe all my books as romantasy when they all have snogging (and more!) in them.
seeing a lot of chat about the juggernaut that is romantasy in publishing at the moment, & given I am a fantasy author with a YA romantasy book out (plus, I just did a romantasy panel yesterday) I feel like I should have some startling insights. I'm not sure I do. But...
