Red Ogre (@ogre.red) gets rights to your work upon *submission*.

And those rights are ridiculous. They can change your work, not credit you, use your work for advertising, or put it in an anthology.

Don't submit to this one, folks.

The public made noise for Liam Ramos and it got him released from Dilley.

Now we must make noise for 7 year old Diana Crespo.

Her parents were taking her for emergency medical care when ICE grabbed them, and she’s rotting in the camp sick and exposed to measles.

Get them out!

Swear to god, ICE could just announce they're leaving a city but not leave and the media will just stop covering that city completely even though ICE never left.

It's what ICE and the media did with LA and they're doing it with Minneapolis too

This is only related in a sideways manner, but: the story of any small slice of humanity is the story of humanity, just boiled down and distilled. So:

In 2020, we had a lot of conversations about harassment at SF/F conventions, and Isaac Asimov came up several times.
the Epstein files are really devastating because they remind me of how many girls and women miss out on professional opportunities, mentorship and careers because of how many powerful, rich and influential men only view girls and women — and interactions with them — through the lens of sex

By my count in the last five years we have seen four sex trafficking rings involving the elite of entertainment and media, academia, finance, and politics with no discernible effects on our system and without us making it central to political analysis. Instead, pundits told us #metoo went too far.

Men are not trash. It's the system.

We subject boys, literal children, to the most unimaginably dehumanizing conditions at a massive cultural scale in the imperial core, and then call them pieces of shit for not fighting off structural forces when they were 7.

We can change this, together.
Men are not trash.
Perpetuating the narrative that “men are bad” helps normalize rape culture by making it seem like it’s just inherent to their nature. It’s not.

Yup. SEVERAL is the time where I met someone as a fan of mine and/or someone with a single professional sale who then became a bestseller/award winner/big deal in a different but related field. Time passes. Everything is fluid. Who you see on the way up is who you'll see on the way down. And so on.
The thing is you never know for sure when the person you're talking to is going to be in a different position, whether they have a book deal they haven't announced or they blow up on TikTok or whatever. If you want to be part of a community, it's so shortsighted to only want to talk to "big names"
5. Who are you to the people new to the community? Who are you to people who can offer you nothing in that community but encouragement? Who are you to the people attractive to you? Who are you to those NOT attractive to you? Are you happy to talk to a "nobody" or looking to trade up in conversation?

At this point, I think the entire publishing industry needs to have a serious conversation about the degree to which the last 15 years have increasingly seen book promo become an online venture, and what that means now that entire social media and digital platforms are getting torched overnight. 🧵
The WaPo cuts are devastating. And to cut the Books section entirely makes the already bleak critical landscape even more bare. This was all preventable but Bezos, who could find the post I perpetuity without noticing it, is hellbent on destroying the Post. And for what?

“burn the entire democracy down and start over” is an opinion equivalent to “apocalyptic times are good because the rapture is coming and I’ll go to heaven” in that it’s a way people give themselves permission to do none of the complex and difficult things that would make things a little better now
