Somehow adding the first line to this block of code slows the surrounding benchmark from 400 to 600ms? (admittedly the benchmark runs a virtual 6502 for 10 million cycles, on a messy instruction) Haven't managed to reproduce in a tiny test bed yet, still pecking away at it.

I really should get around to watching Misery.
Not only was it the best use of Kathy Bates in her career which is hard to do, the best use of James Caan which is hard to do, the best use of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 which is ALSO hard to do, it is the ONLY movie based on a Stephen King book to win an Oscar.

I MISSED THE NAME CHANGE

I FUCKING LOVE THIS SO MUCH???????? justice for Grace!!!! she suffered so much there!!!!! someone finally SAW her and said "you did not deserve what happened to you and I'm going to remind us all of that every day so we never fall back into that old trap"

holy shit man
I like that the church gets renamed in the end and it's to "out lady of perpetual grace"
Also wick's mass schedule is actually insane. Imagine loving hearing yourself yap hate so much you have EIGHT (8) masses a week. Even god knew how to rest dude.

Wicks represents sort of a uniquely American extreme of the Pope Benedict way of thinking, which explicitly prioritized a smaller, purer church. Father Jud (and I think we are meant to believe Bishop Langstrom) are clearly more in the Pope Francis “throw the doors open wide” mindset
does this suggest to you that the hierarchy supports wicks' warriorlike approach to the word, regardless of its effect on the size of his flock? or that it has nothing to do with how he runs his parish and they are simply intransigently bureaucratic, which based on above sounds true to life?

SORRY TO KEEP POSTING ABOUT THIS I just can’t stop thinking about Simone at the end after everything that has happened playing a melody which contains BOTH these sets of lyrics

“they buried my body and they thought I’d gone”

AND

“‘tis the gift to be simple, ‘tis the gift to be free”

Rob Reiner: I'm going to make a coming of age drama, a fantasy adventure story, a romantic comedy, a psychological horror and then a courtroom drama.

Us: Across your entire career?

Reiner: In a 6 year period.

Us: That sounds-

Reiner: -Each one will be arguably the best movie in that genre.

Of course, running instruction emulation tests that run on the target CPU relies on the instructions the test is written in behaving correctly..

As a director, Rob Reiner released these five movies all in a row

1986 Stand by Me
1987 The Princess Bride
1989 When Harry Met Sally…
1990 Misery
1992 A Few Good Men

All remarkable and vastly different films, showing extraordinary range and talent

Choosing to focus, on hearing the news of Rob Reiner's passing, to remember this moment where he was so overcome with joy and laughter that he - the director of the movie - was one of many people banished from the set in order to finish filming.
TIL nearly all of the "Miracle Max" scene from Princess Bride was improvised by Billy Crystal, and it took three ten hour days to shoot, because they couldn't get through his improv without everyone (cast and crew) laughing so hard it ruined the audio.

Mandy Patinkin bruised a rib holding it in.

He's also responsible for raising all the money that paid for bringing Hollingsworth v. Perry & even more importantly Bostic v. Schaefer, which created the circuit split that forced SCOTUS to take on Obergefell v. Hodges. The role he played in American marriage equality cannot be overstated.
The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

Intriguing!
Ripple on Netflix is compelling. It's like every romantic comedy and Xmas film rolled into one series, set in a New York populated by the most emotionally mature characters who have never existed outside of this wholesome universe. It is about love and grief, and it's unrealistic but wonderful.

Whee, just loaded one of the Lorentz tests into my emu and (after a couple of bug fixes*), emulated the first 20 cycles \o/

(* stackpointer decrement at the first JSR threw an error when wrapping, as would've pc. Fixed both, and also initialised SP to 0xff)

TFW your phone is down to 5% and it's your only internet connection, but the nearest end of the cable from your phone charger is about a meter away and your arms are only about 70cm long.

ughhhhh, why?

So annoying having to support decimal mode in my 6502 emulator knowing I'm almost certainly never going to write any 6502 that requires it, but it's fairly likely that at some point it'll need to deal with some code someone else wrote that does. NES got this one right.
