Since I seem to keep doing these, making a master thread to keep as my Pinned post with all my "these are my Commander decks" threads I have done... mostly so I can keep track of them, especially as I am considering new builds with some recent Commanders from Aetherdrift.

We saw that a few posts back, didn't we?

But, critically, Reagan's version of the metaphor is not the same cautionary "everyone is watching you, so don't fuck up" framing as Kennedy or even Winthrop used. It reverses the direction: "everyone is watching you because you are special, and because you are special, you cannot fuck up".

Pope Leo's first sermon and, uh, his using the phrase "be ever more fully a city set upon a hill" and cf'ing it to Rev 21:10 instead of any of the others before saying "many baptized Christians" are "living in a state of practical atheism" is. Well. Shots fired!

During his homily, delivered in Italian, Leo XIV said that Christians must serve a world that is often hostile to their beliefs.

Being among the first interrogated and ultimately fired by DOGE, I certainly felt we were facing the business end of a right-wing conspiracy theory 🧵
DOGE was not a money-saving effort. It was an effort to chase down and prove right-wing conspiracy theories. They went after USAID to prove conspiracy theories about foreign aid. Then they went after SSA to, again, pursue conspiracy theories about Dems paying "illegals" to vote. 1/2
All DOGE accomplished was purging critical government staff, handing private data to outsiders, and sentencing thousands in developing countries to death by gutting USAID.

I don’t say this lightly: if there were any justice in this world, the people responsible for this devastation would be in jail

It's time for everyone's favorite chronologically unanchored holiday, The Story of the Lizard in the Leg.
Because people keep asking, the Story of The Lizard In That Dude's Leg. Some caveats:

1. This happened more than twenty years ago. There are no pictures. There was a small article in a local paper with, again, no pictures (I'm assuming that's what the producers of 9-1-1: LONE STAR found).

Now that I am at the end of the thread, posting the bottom of it here so it is easier to read.

TL;DR: Bitcoin and major stock indexes are crashing, VIX is spiking, something is going on and there are several possible What's, including "Wall Street thinks Donald Trump is fucking cooked."
There are numerous potential hypotheses for what "thing X might be cracking!" could be right now. But it sure looks like SOMETHING is cracking, because the VIX has spiked and Bitcoin is dumping and all major financial indexes continue trending downward.

Time to hold onto our collective asses.

This is continuing in the vein of "Sean Is Mad And/Or Sad About A Number Again," except this time...?

Not sure if I am mad or sad or wistful or this is just a good moment for schadenfreude?

There is a key metric I have been keeping an eye on the past year, the price of Bitcoin.

It was a victim of its own success in a lot of ways.

I was doing economic justice work pre-Occupy and the before/after was light and day.

The previously-fringe discussion or wealth inequality became SO mainstream SO fast that folks kind of forgot it was new information to most in 2011.
I've listened to several podcasts and read several articles on why people are souring on capitalism and they all don't mention Occupy which is weird to me because of nothing else they mainstreamed a lot of the language we use today. And it was a genuinely big deal at the time.
