There isn’t any reason the big tent conversation needs to be conflated with the “who gets to lead things/run for senate conversation.” Plenty of space for people who wanna cover up Nazi tats, just maybe not a Senate seat. No Senate for people with Nazi tats isn’t some rule the left made up yesterday

Local legislator displays the importance of kerning
I had to scan a bunch of hard-copy photos with my phone today and Genius Scan, which I have on the 1-week free trial, was actually pretty good. In particular, colour fidelity was better than the other apps I‘ve tested recently. PDF export easy, but JPG export a bit fiddly in bulk.
Does anyone have recs for Android document scanning apps?

I was using the full version of Adobe Scan but cancelled my Adobe subscription earlier this year in protest (AI in everything + big price hike). CamScanner used to be great but it's $$$ now that it's on a subscription model.

Read her book!! On Repentance and Repair. Crucial, helpful, incredibly readable. I quoted it extensively and Burn It Down & interviewed @theradr.bsky.social
because people need to understand that repentance is not a one-off/soundbite, it’s a *process* with the community and centering those harmed 👊🏻
Look, I absolutely believe in the ability of people to grow and redeem themselves for their earlier misadventures and even plain awful shit they did, but you need to *do the work*. There is no redemption without repentance, to paraphrase my good friend Rabbi @theradr.bsky.social.(also read her book)

Graham Planter, who is trying to win the Democratic nomination for Susan Collins's Senate seat, has a skull tattoo like the German "death's head" tattoo worn by actual Nazis. That's what they are talking about.

I'm going to start an account for people who are almost too online but not enough to know what people are talking about. Every post will be a one sentence explanation, like: x person, candidate for whatever, has a tattoo which says whatever, which is racist.

I have never liked a politician so much that I would get on the internet to negotiate how much Nazi tattoo is a acceptable amount of Nazi tattoo.

It's none! None Nazi tattoo!

one thing about racism is the way people will ignore the most likely explanation for something like having a Nazi tattoo for 20 years.

the most simple and obvious explanation was that he knew what it was and kept it. his excusers need to stop the embarrassing mental gymnastics.
Jewish Insider just sent out an email with an article with more Platner info. And yeah, this guy is DONE done.

This still-in-progress-at-time-of-my-reposting thread is the perfect low stakes drama so far
pleased to announce that there seems to be a passive-aggressive conflict roiling the august pages of Cooks Illustrated, Fall Harvest recipes edition. allow me to explain:
In the past I've happily paid a chunk of money for a licence on a program with good features. I really hate everything being subscription nowadays.

Hey, is anyone wildly uninformed about maladies and ailments, because I'm looking for a nonexpert to solve my life-threatening problems. Can you help me out here? NO ONE WHO HAS SPENT YEARS STUDYING THE TOPIC IN A COLLABORATIVE ENVIRONMENT PLEASE. Thanks.

“let’s speculate on Ea-Nasir’s vibes” is the best Extremely Online parlor game I can imagine
Is your Ea-Nasir a John Rhys Davies or a Kronk or a third undefined type?

My husband says Nanni is Paul Schaferish, kinda weedy and nasal.

Radio National is counting down the #Top100Books of the 21st Century this weekend, and I'm a sucker for a countdown of any kind, so I'm tuning in.

This is what I voted for:

the whole article could have just been ten pages of “Brilliant Things Eleanor O’Brien Said,” and some gold was left on the cutting room floor, but this is such a banger of a closer and it’s so very much the theme of today

“Well-meaning” people are using machine translation to write Wikipedia articles in languages that they don’t speak themselves, accelerating the degeneration in quality of the web corpus for several languages with relatively few native speakers.

How AI and Wikipedia have sent vulnerable languages into a doom spiral
Machine translators have made it easier than ever to create error-plagued Wikipedia articles in obscure languages. What happens when AI models get trained on junk pages?
