the atrocities of ww2 spawned the dada movement. i've been saying for a while that we need Absurdity in the world as a reaction to its horrors and in this case, it's also acting as a tool against them in real time

Can you put into words what that purpose is? You and the frog have really become icons of this protest.

There’s been a nice overall whimsy that has shown up. The frog is amazing. We had a bunch of other inflatable people here last night, too. I saw people playing Twister the other day.

What they rely on is fear. So by coming out in an absurdist manner, it speaks to them, to some extent, that we’re actually not that afraid.

It also dismantles their narrative a little bit. When they try to describe this situation as “war-torn,” it becomes much harder to take them seriously when they have to post a video saying [U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security] Kristi Noem is up on the balcony staring over the Antifa Army and it’s, like, eight journalists and five protesters and one of them is in a chicken suit.

turns out not everyone is a reliable narrator

which is why i try to have more charitable interpretations of things and hold accountability where i can, even if it's not mine to hold, cuz i'd rather that than blaming and judging and all the other hot new trends

“Not Like Us” is replete with profanity, trash-talking, threats of violence, and figurative and hyperbolic language, all of which are indicia of opinion. A reasonable listener would not equate a song that contains lyrics such as, “Ain’t no law, boy, you ball boy, fetch Gatorade or somethin’, since 2009 I had this b**** jumpin’,” with accurate factual reporting. Accordingly, the reasonable listener of “Not Like Us” would conclude that Lamar is rapping hyperbolic vituperations.

Looking at things from all angles and using all info before making a decision is a great mindset to have. One of the more incredible stories out of LA this year has been how a taco review blog became the best on-the-ground coverage of ICE raids in the city.

They do a dispatch every day, follow-up on the kidnapped people (which almost no media outlet has done), and fact-check government claims.
