This is just like UBI. Every study shows it works and is more cost effective but societies‘ hatred of poor people means we‘d rather pay more to make them suffer.

Trump lied about immigrants in 2016 too. He then defeated an official from the administration that holds the deportation record.

If migration caused Trump's reelection (I don't think it did), it wasn't b/c of migrants. It was b/c mainstream, centrist outlets amplified fearmongering about migrants.

Democrats keep saying there is nothing they can do. In the Senate, they can begin by refusing to allow unanimous consent to advance anything, for any reason. It does not stop everything, but it would render the Senate almost unworkable. They don’t, because it will make their jobs harder.
