On NPR on Friday, there was a story of a 4-year-old--an American citizen--who hasn't left her house since early December, not even to play in the yard. And her 8-year-old brother recently stopped going to school, too. Their father is undocumented, and the family doesn't want to risk him being taken.

I don't 100% agree with everything doc has said in this thread so I don't want to seem too defensive, but one of the most annoying rejoinders I see on here is this pretending that there aren't like, notable fundamental differences between even vague "leftism" and "liberalism", let alone like Marxism
This whole thread is kind of fascinating to me, because it's predicated on an insurmountable ideological distinction between "liberalism" and "leftism", and then all of the examples he gives are purely arguments about aesthetics, style, emotion, association, rhetoric, etc.
