In related news, a bunch of transphobes have been trying to start an argument with me for the last couple of days and why would I engage in that when I could do pretty much anything else instead?
The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

Since people find being hopeful and optimistic so cringe these days, let me remind you once again that there isn’t a single liberation movement in the world that wasn’t built on hope and optimism.

This is one of those things that makes me despair for our ability to consume art. You think the people watching Shakespeare were bitching that the boy playing Ophelia didn't look like a young noblewoman?
So are we supposed to just accept these 20-30 year olds are in high school? Yeah. You are. We did it in every show in the 80s and 90s. They are doing a great job, and I’d rather see a conclusion to the show than just kill it because of unfortunate circumstances.

So, at The Your Party’s founding conference, were the pro-trans, pro-Palestine and anti-austerity amendments to its Organisational Strategy set aside because the chair said there was no time left to debate the remaining amendments, or were they in fact voted on with the results unannounced?

this AI shit is not gonna break me. I am still a writer and I'm still gonna write shit and it's gonna mostly be "just OK" workaday prose elevated by my little poetic flourishes but it's gonna be something only I could write. and maybe I won't even do anything with it, but it will exist

A fun thing to think about while watching James Bond is how Bond is a reflection of male beauty standards. Up 'til the end of Brosnan's run Bond has a hairy chest. As soon as Casino Royale happens, Bond is shaved smooth. Like a dolphin.

Started an essay two months ago, finally finished it today. In its first draft. This is both a comment on how full-on work gets October-December, and that I have made an extremely poor choice of primary creative outlet.

A collective leadership model for a political party is both a really fucking cool idea in general, and entirely what the creators of Your Party seemed to have in mind. It's wholly possible this won't save them, given the hole it's gotten into, but I can't see an argument it makes things *worse*.

This needs to be said loudly and often: effectively nobody in the press is going to choose Polanski over Farage. It'll take a while to figure out how precisely to ratfuck Polanski, but they'll find a way, and it'll be all we hear about from that point on.
This is correct: there is no screeching terror campaign coming here to annihilate Farage’s posh National Front. If it comes to a choice between beating back Reform or e.g. the Greens, then that is not going to be a choice at all for people who actually matter in British public life.

Jenny Watson's recent Substack posts seem to indicate internal strains and stresses in the GC

On one level, Stephen Pollard is just obviously and unremarkably evil. On another, though, his latest simmering shart of a piece is instructive. By claiming Farage is a bulwark *against* extremism, he reminds us Trotsky it right over a century ago - fascism is counter-revolutionary above all else.
These lads are going to get in trouble for making all of their journo colleagues look like gormless fucking idiots, quite frankly
