Warning: Gaines outfitted that bench with a whoopee cushion.
I've decided that the morning after my reading next Tuesday night at Brooklyn Books & Booze, I'm going to wander Riverside Park until I can find and sit on the same bench where MAD Magazine publisher Bill Gaines used to hang out, a landmark dedicated by Dick DeBartolo. youtu.be/o5DDmVs7ikY

What's from Chicago, hates Illinois Nazis, and is holy as fuck?

I will not support a deal that does nothing to make health care more affordable.

We are in a health care emergency. A simple one-year extension of these tax credits would cost less than Donald Trump’s $40 billion bailout for Argentina.

A vote for this bill is a mistake.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

It shows Schumer no longer has the caucus.
It doesn't actually matter if Chuck Schumer votes for this or not.

If he can't keep his caucus unified to protect healthcare for over 10 million Americans, he should resign as leader.

Exactly this — caving for nothing makes all that pain for nothing.

Further, them caving lends credence to this being just some political scrum when it’s actually much more fundamental than that!

Call those senators, please.
Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

Produced by Val Lewton, who 2 years earlier had produced this film's iconic forerunner, CAT PEOPLE. Both well worth revisiting.
First snowfall of the season, a rewatch of this one very soon.
Hey, so CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE is really incredible. A heightened, darkened fairytale look at childhood and imagination and the closed-off, lonely world of a child. Should be talked about in the same breath as NIGHT OF THE HUNTER. Damn.

Tomorrow I will only be voting for township trustees and local board of education members, but I will be voting. I will say that if I were voting in California, I'd be voting for Prop 50, and if I were voting in New York City, I'd be voting for Mamdani for mayor. Wherever you are, vote!

We strongly condemn @CondéNast’s consolidation plans for Teen Vogue, a move that is clearly designed to blunt the award-winning magazine’s insightful journalism at a time when it is needed the most. More from our statement:

They gutted the Washington Post. CBS. NYT. Now Teen Vogue.

The point isn't to bring in more conservatives. They've reached that saturation point.

They are killing the fourth estate and buying up the social media to control the messages we see. These were all targeted to disarm the left of truth.

No more Black or trans staffers. No politics of any kind. The cowardice of mainstream media isn't just insulting, it's *boring.* Now TV is just like any other beauty rag. Why not just kill it quickly? Why the slow-motion pretense?
thank you for all the support; the statement from our union is now live here with some more reporting.

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.
