My hot CFL rules take is that the league made a mistake by reducing the endzones to 20 yards, and would have been better off reducing the field to 100 yards instead.
[February 12th, 1986] The CFL governors will review eight rule changes next week, four of which alter the look of the game significantly. These proposals include moving kickoffs to the 35-yard line and reducing end zones to 20 yards.

Here's what I'm struggling to understand: if you're SO "low-information" that you're surprised to learn things like, e.g., "Donald Trump wants to deport a lot of immigrants"... how are you even aware that there's an election going on, or how to vote in it? And why would you even want to?
New poll: In 2024, low-engagement voters went for Trump over Harris by 11 percentage points. But now they disapprove of the way he's handling the presidency by 13. They have moved 25 points against Trump — 2x as large as the shift for high-knowledge voters www.gelliottmorris.com/p/trump-lost...
Trump has lost the voters who weren’t paying attention in 2024
The least-engaged Americans have swung 25 points against him since 2024 — about twice the shift among everyone else. Trump has flattened the engagement gap.

The IOC has banned Ukrainian skeleton athlete Vladyslav Heraskevych from competing. A decision that came 45 mins before the event.

Heraskevych was using a helmet that honoured his country's athletes and coaches killed in the war with Russia.

Here are the details: www.cbc.ca/sports/olymp...

Getting really fed up at work having to constantly argue with an LLM via an annoying human intermediary.

it's literally impossible for an LLM to do a historian's job

it's not even LLMs sucking it's that they need data input to do anything and where's that data supposed to be coming from without historians

never met a computer that can dig through a thousand year old book in a library

the problem with AI “journalism” is that, as I discussed in this piece, LLMs eventually come up against the constraint that they know only what is legible to the digital. vast swaths of global happenings aren’t digitally legible and will remain so. only human reporters can describe those events.
Rejecting Reality in the Age of AI
The Internet and AI are encouraging more and more people to deny reality itself. Here's why that's bad.

U.K. might lose a prime minister because a guy who worked for him knew another guy who hung out with Epstein. Meanwhile the U.S. opposition party is telling our President, who was Epstein's best friend, that his secret police should get better training so their public street murders look less messy.

chat is this good?
according to a pediatric ER doctor my wife follows on Instagram they have started to see children coming in sick because their parents are asking ChatGPT what the correct dosage is on over the counter medication instead of just looking at the instructions on the bottle
One of the easiest ways to shoot down the idea that "AI" is an expert is to show how it deals with something people know about.

Younger readers may not get this as most appliances come pre-wired, but anyone 35+ can see these are chaotic fire hazards.

From Mastodon, AI asked how to wire a plug:

Alright, where are my gifted kids at? You were smart and you never had to study and then you went to college and suddenly had to learn a new skillset overnight, that everybody else had years to learn, or flame out spectacularly?

That’s what talent is like.
In my experience, talent is a *detriment* to learning.

I didn't have to practice early on so I *didn't know how*. I didn't start to learn how to practice until my 30s! (When much of my life was taken up with parenting, so I didn't have time!)

I didn't start to improve as a musician until my 40s!
I'm going to say this again in case you haven't heard this one: I was a talented writer and it did *nothing whatsoever* because I hadn't put in the work, and I put in the work for ten years (subtracting the bit where I had to quit for my mental health) to write Witchmark

talent alone could *never*
