Despite global challenges for women in STEM, there are local wins to celebrate.

Across the EU, women made up 42.5% of STEM graduates in 2021, with even higher representation in countries like Romania and Poland. 🇪🇺

Let's keep empowering #WomenInScience! 👩‍💻

I’ve spent a good chunk of my career relying on American science and engineering to keep me alive. Yesterday, RFK Jr. testified at the U.S. Senate Finance Committee. It was sad to see him try to destroy the life’s work of so many American scientists. He shouldn’t be in this job.

There’s enough known lithium reserves today to make over 2 billion EVs — more than the world’s total passenger cars.

The challenge isn’t running out of lithium. It’s mining and refining sustainably.

Spent batteries in UK EVs will be worth roughly $1 billion per year in 2030 to 2040.

Why are battery and auto manufacturers not being made to design them for recycling already?

I have the chance to get a Raman spectrometer for my group since the colleague who was responsible for Raman has left for industry.

Is there a good book or ressource to learn some details (also about TERS), since I only have very limited knowledge in that area so far?

What if no one bought a new car this year?

Very good question.

How much better off would we all be, in different ways?
Absolutely love this FT letter. "Thought experiment: what if no one buys a new car?"

Curious how so many are egging on the cut to foreign aid from 0.5% to 0.3% saying we need to invest in defence

But so few are calling to rejoin the EU where we could recover 4-5% in GDP and use some of that to fund defence

If the UK and EU don’t scale up the clean tech industry now, they’ll never compete with China in the next 50
Years.

This is why we HAVE to continue - but drop the unrealistic 2030 goal 👇
Exciting! We got it black on white that on European level, competitiveness and achieving a 90% climate goal by 2040 "go hand in hand". Strong signal for #cleantech manufacturing in EU.

This allows the EU to adopt its 2040 & 2035 targets for NDC in June.

A typical European car is parked 92% of the time. It spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, and most of the energy that does, moves the car, not the people.

Sound efficient?
