RIP to David Lynch, gone one year today — here’s an old poem from when I first rewatched The Return, astonished by the way it redefined time, space, and memory, collapsing + problematizing them with humor and warmth even in the presence of seemingly ineradicable American violence

The most unsubtle, heavy-handed claims made by pomo academic types have turned out to all be true. Gender is a relation of domination that requires constant, affirming witness. Capitalism will require extractive colonial relations. There’s no subtlety. Every day is like a 101 seminar at Oberlin.

the reason people sometimes act madder at democrats than republicans when republicans do impossibly evil shit is the same reason why, if you hired an exterminator to handle a roach infestation and he showed up to feed and play with them instead, your first instinct wouldn’t be to yell at the roaches

I have read this book and cosign! It IS a good book, and you, too, should read it, especially if you think about the climate, family, grief, and what makes for bonds between living creatures when the world is ending.

Shameless self-promotion at the end of the year: my second book of poetry, WE THE DESTROYERS, came out from @riotinyourthroat.bsky.social in your throat this year:

I am obviously biased but it's a pretty good book and you should read it!
We the Destroyers by Laura Passin - Riot in Your Throat Press

Please answer the questions in this thread:
The article you’re sharing touts a teacher making students use “A.i.” to design ugly sweaters. That’s a repugnant use of tech based on theft to rob kids of the chance to use their own minds and hands to actually draw. Do you support that attack on human creativity?

Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing a text, writing an email, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can’t do things we’ve been doing since the dawn of time.

In general, AI adoption levels are a measurement of to what extent a particular reward system (a corporation, a market, academia as a whole system) has ceased to distinguish between doing a thing and pretending to do a thing
One of many things the pro-AI crowd doesn't seem to understand is the very important distinction between academic scholarship and the production of papers. Of course they can be related but they're not necessarily the same thing
