I think gen AI usage in Tokusatsu is problematic and not just for the typical reasons.

Toku as a genre is one that emphasizes style over verisimilitude, where being distinct matters more than looking good. This is a thing American adaptations usually fail to understand about it.

For those unaware there's a Power Rangers show being made by "Ninja Kidz"

Despite that name it's clearly targeting a nostalgia demographic.

Also they have used "AI" for the VFX. It fucking sucks.

The fact that SEGA owns The Freedom Fighters, Grounder, Scratch, Coconuts, Sticks, and other Sonic Cartoon & Comic characters but refuses to incorporate them into the modern franchise will forever infuriate me!

It's a juvenile & stupid decision, IMHO.

I heard that Toei wanted too much money to continue licensing the footage for the show, and if that’s the case then they have clearly overestimated the value of their own show outside of PR

It’s a symbiotic relationship. Toei and Bandai get a wider audience for Super Sentai- and specifically the TOYS- than a more niche traditional dub ever would get, and Saban/Disney/Hasbro/whoever gets the fight footage to make an action show for cheap

Hot take, Sentai also needs PR, if solely for the international merch sales, because in its native Japan Sentai is actually kinda flopping hard RN, especially in comparison to Kamen Rider

Also three of the past five series were at least partially centered around throwbacks to prior Sentai
