This thread is actually a really good map of two incompatible moral economies online. The two cultures constantly misread each other because they’re in the same room for once (Bluesky), but not speaking the same ritual language.
there's a disjuncture too between "open source AI hacker on bluesky" and "big AI company." the former are enthusiasts that have vastly different personalities and lifestyles than the kind of institutionalized personality the latter has
I say this as someone whose entire job is finding the narrow use cases in which AI is actually useful:
All the fear about AI, all the reluctance to adopt it, is entirely legitimate, and a product of the fact that it's been foisted on the public with no consideration of its negative externalities.

the reality of different people having conflicting interests and institutional rules not being magical tends to be swept under the rug in tech criticism, which is why the same recurring fights happen over and over again (anti-pornography vs "porn is the first line of defense")

If Hasbro would have made a unified continuity with all of their action franchise, including Power Rangers & VR Troopers, they have to get some leeway with Takara Tomy, the company that owns the underlying elements of Transformers.

I wasn't really a tape collector. I usually made my own tapes from old TV recordings. I still have a few of my old VHS recordings from the past, but I don't have a proper VCR these days.
As for video tapes, I think Disney was pretty top-shelf. They felt special, and the presentation was stellar.
