I keep saying that BlueSky has the most potential to be the next Twitter. Spoutible lacks visibility and Mastodon is too siloed and user unfriendly.

BlueSkys strength is that its Twitter for people who hate Twitter
Bluesky has actually been remarkably successful as an app within a relatively short time frame. Expecting it to have the same metrics as some of the biggest apps in the world is stupid. What really matters is having content that people care about, especially if it travels outside the platform itself

Getting rid of the VRA is not an automatic win button for Republicans. If anything it will just piss off Dems into voting even more.
REMINDER: Ari Berman expects the Republican majority on the Supreme Court to kill the rest of the Voting Rights Act any day now. That could get rid of every Black member of Congress from the South by the end of 2026.

A lot of it stems from the fact that Trump has spent decades building his image and ingraining himself into popular culture as a successful businessman. People cannot and will not believe that the rich man from the Apprentice could possibly be this self destructively stupid.
as it always is, part of the trump problem is that describing his behavior in plain language makes you sound like you should be on a 72 hour hold

“There is nothing you can do about AI”

Open AI is struggling not to collapse which will impact the whole market. Just don’t use it, it’s that simple. As it stands it’s not viable so don’t help change that

Just randomly thinking about that idea I had of an Incredibles spin off series based on Tokusatsu/Power Rangers and imagining an episode where they fight a film director monster that's basically a caricature of John Lasseter

This whole ad is actually funny in hindsight when you consider that the Ninja Turtles have gotten several reboots and new series in the time since. Meanwhile Dennis the Menace is virtually nonexistent while Fred Flintstone is largely reduced to reruns and selling cereal.
Still find it funny that the Ninja Turtles are as old now as these characters were when this drivel was farted out, and only one of these characters is still in use in any meaningful way today, and even then only as a cereal mascot.

HAL 9000 is DONE! Really happy how this came out. I've always wanted a HAL prop hanging on my wall. I never thought I would actually have one. I highly recommend this Moebius model kit.

My own bet is that the SCOTUS ruling on tariffs depending on how it pans out will be what sends him over the edge completely. Elderly Tariff Otaku won't be able to cope with the loss of his security blanket.
47 will croak before or during his hissy fit with the Green People.
If 47 goes to war with Scandinavia, I propose we surrender and get all that free shit.

I can imagine a lot of GOP congress critters getting a lot of concerned calls from their European donors right now.
fwiw, i think part of the reason that trump's in such a hysterical panic about greenland is because he's been told behind closed doors that this is a line he cannot cross by people who can actually enforce that.
it's not, like, ha-ha funny, but one of the funnier things about trump's greenland obsession is that it might be the one thing trump is doing that unites almost every single bloc in the republican coalition — against him. everyone hates this shit, everywhere.

I am more interested in the fact they apparently now think B-2s were invented in the 18th century
interesting environment, huh
Now, I’m no military historian. However, I’m pretty sure that’s not a common Revolutionary war tactic (and that’s ignoring the one guy firing into the air).

There is a point to be made that casting Trump as a threat to Democracy didn't work because its very difficult for the average voter who doesn't follow politics to wrap their head around the idea that the US can backslide into an authoritarian regime.
You want to know why Chuck Schumer is talking about affordability & not Trump being a fascist? It's because we already tried talking about him being a fascist *& everyone ignored us*.
A big part of why we are at where we are is that much of the world, the press, foreign leaders, a big hunk of US voters, simply refused to believe it when Democrats said Trump would be as bad as he is.

Right now I am not saying getting rid of Trump will magically fix everything but it will go a long way towards making things better since the MAGA movement will likely fall apart very fast without their cult leader.

This is also why I have very little patience now for all the apocalypse posters writing America off as a failed country and that redemption for the US is impossible. Its especially stupid when you consider how successfully Japan was able to rehabilitate itself post WWII having done far worse shit.
One side effect of hardening myself against social media's performative misanthropy is that I no longer have patience for films/books/tv that operate from a cynical standpoint and act like humanity isn't worth saving. That's not cool or edgy anymore, all I see is the author's untreated depression.

The predictable end result of having spent years stewing in the right-wing internet/Fox News echo chamber and becoming convinced that your beliefs are truly reflective of real life.
ICE and MAGA really did bet the farm on all of Minneapolis’s white people going “oh yes, please take away our disgusting, evil non-white-foreigner neighbors, oh thank you so much.”

it’s beautiful that they’ve been proven incredibly wrong about that - may the rest of the country do the same.

If we are talking about 2024 you can also add a global anti-incumbent backlash, 2019 nostalgia, and inflation rage to that list as well
Trump didn't rise because society was so broken, we were not in 2016 or 2024 Weimar Germany, riven with economic hardship that caused people to turn to a dictator.

he rose because on feminism, race relations, and LGBT rights were were making progress and it freaked a lot of people out.
