As a violence prevention educator, when parents ask me "What can I do to protect my kids from sexual abuse?", my advice is teach them the correct names for their body parts.
If a child is being abused and tells a teacher "My bird hurts", they're not gonna be able to clock that they don't mean a pet

My husband dresses differently than most and he’s an artist but like every Bosnian man he loves to fish. So today we went fishing in the Adriatic Sea. It rained on us and was freezing and we caught nothing but it was awesome and we will go again.

I used to not wear makeup because I thought I didn’t deserve to because I wasn’t feminine enough or beautiful enough. We need to stop policing or even worrying at all about what other people do, please. Makeup is not just about femininity or sexuality or any of that shit. It can be many things.
Makeup is a pivotal part of my self expression. It is self care and art. A red lip makes me feel powerful.
I get to enjoy that. And yes, it gets to be part of my identity.

Yesterday we went to drop some stuff off with Milenko’s godfather (also named Milenko, go figure) and we visited the graveyard where so many generations of his family are buried. We lit candles on his mom’s grave.

I think we underestimate the value of having a personal and emotional relationship and bond with our modes of transportation and how much difference that would have made in potential injury rates. It was something meaningful that we’ve lost.
Considering that horses are dangerous and riders are very regularly seriously injured, I wonder what the direct overall injury/death rate looked like when everyone in our society had to constantly ride/drive horses, versus the injury/death rate from cars today?
