Perhaps the book you're in the mood for is John Steinbeck's "The Moon Is Down", which was written as part of a war propaganda effort in the early 1940's, as was Lifeboat which became a film directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

We've already received a lot of great applications for the Kuš! Comics Residency in Riga. But we don't want to hear you didn't know about this, so here is a little reminder that the deadline to apply is in 4 days. komikss.lv/residency

Andrea was wonderful to work with on Gender Queer, if you have a graphic novel pitch ready to go and you are looking for an agent you should send it in! Her submissions are open! www.andreacolvincreative.com/contact

Anyway, I'm sure some cartoonists out there would probably like to use some of these as drawing prompts

So one of the things I came up with since I took over as managing editor at Iron Circus is doing more sales for the back catalogue. And last year (based on stats) we learned one day sales do better than longer running sales.

Hot take: this feels very bad but it's actually a stupid way to do accumulate data, because it guarantees bad data and a bad end result and that's worse.

Taking a detour through some library protocol stuff 🧵

Nothing will teach you how to make comics faster than making them. Make a comic! If it sucks ass, hey, you still made it yourself, and the simple act of creation in itself has merit. You got nothing to lose and everything to gain.

You gotta do it. Dont worry about making mistakes. Dont worry about “doing it wrong.” Learn as you go. Figure out what works and realize that the path is different for everybody. The time will pass either way, you can either spend it thinking about making comics or making comics.

If you're considering signing a graphic novel contract,

look at the advance the publisher is offering and subtract 15% for your agent (if you have one) and then 30% for taxes,

and then divide by the 5-7 years it might take you to finish the book,

and then decide if the money is worth it.

My block finger is heavy today.

"copyright is bad because it exploits workers."

No, jackass. Copyright is flawed because it doesn't adequately protect workers. And you specifically are mad at copyright because you want to be the one to exploit workers.
