Millions of years ago during the Silurian period, the Sahara Desert was a shallow sea full of aquatic animals like crinoids. Don’t be fooled! Crinoids are commonly called "sea lilies" but they aren't plants! They are echinoderms, like starfish and sea urchins, and many species are still alive today!

Lovely lichens 💚

Winter is a great time for spotting lichen. They're less hidden by foliage and increased rainfall rehydrates them, giving many species of lichen a brighter and more colourful appearance.

Layers of green ridges and open valleys, with early autumn color settling in. I’m always drawn to scenes like this. Quiet. Spacious. Beautiful in a steady way.

The Cretaceous Period was the third and final period of the Mesozoic Era, lasting from ~145 million years ago to 66 million yrs ago. It ended after an extinction event, which wiped out non-avian dinosaurs and many marine reptiles. The period featured a warm global climate with high seas.
